BYU ENG*312 online: Anybody completed this one?
#1
I really need to have this course completed in a month from start to finish. I know it is self-paced but I would to hear how realistic this timeline is with this course. English is a strong-suit of mine and I realize that there are requirements that would make it impossible for even an English instructor to complete some courses. Is this one of those courses? I have 5 days per week available to get this done. Is that enough?

Also, what are the speedback quizzes mentioned in the syllabus?

Any and all responses are greatly appreciated!

Why not Penn Fosters English? You can finish it in just a couple weeks. It is self pace, and I think could be cheaper. Around $300

I haven't taken ENGL312 from BYU, so can't comment on this specific course and whether it's possible to finish within one month, but I have taken 2 other university level and one high school level courses from BYU.

The speedback assignments are multiple choice tests that are graded by computer after you submit them, so you will get the results very very quickly.

Your time frame will depend on how long the instructor-graded assignments will take to be graded, I suggest contacting BYU with that question unless you get responses here with experiences. My courses only had speedback assignments.
In my experience BYU were always friendly, helpful and fast in responding to any queries.

Good luck with whichever course you decide to take!

Is that equivalent to the expository writing requirement For Excelsior College? I've already taken English 1101 & 1102 in a community college. Excelsior requires an advanced writing course for the BSN. But I will definitely inquire into Penn Foster. I do know Excelsior no longer accepts some Penn Foster courses, but not sure about all.

Thank you so very much for responding!!!!!

Thanks so much for the information! I want to be done within a month with this course but even if it takes a little more than a month due to instructor turnaround, it beats the alternative which is a 15-week course. Thanks again!!!

I am just updating this thread because I am currently enrolled in this course. This course focuses on two aspects of writing. The first half is rhetorical theory and uses a textbook by Gerard Hauser. I would have rather have a root canal than read this book. It is far better suited to a navel-gazing philosophy course than a persuasive writing course. I haven't opened the second book yet, but there is about 600 pages of reading between the two textbooks and the writing assignments are pretty complex. It is obvious that this course is geared toward seniors in the humanities departments.
