Cheating is not new, and it's not restricted to tests. My kids both say that ChatGPT is writing all high school and college papers these days, the smart kids just know that they need to refine the output, and then change a few things to make it sound like they wrote the paper. They figure it out in like 5 minutes.
Professors are also using AI to check papers today so cheaters are often caught. UMPI also has Milestones so professors can see writing patterns. I've seen international students just submit work from ChatGPT and be expelled because it was clear that they didn't write a single word. Even more so when the work submitted literally doesn't make any sense. Most cheaters don't bother to rewrite anything to make it look legit. They're not that bright. You can't cheat your way through life. Eventually, you will get busted.
AI Detectors do not prove anything. If you write intelligently, you will be flagged for "AI". I had a buddy run multiple papers he wrote in high school through the most prominent AI Detector and it said his papers were "written" by AI. AI did not exist in the way it does today. There is no way to prove to AI wrote a paper, it is simply words on a document. I have even read stories of people getting falsely accused by professors because they used Grammerly to enhance their paper. It is unfortunate that many people rely on these tools to get through school, but there is no way against it at the moment. I am curious to see how Academia will counter this in the coming years.
