Fall 2021 Session 1 -- What is YOURPace?
#91
My first class is done. Feedback on my final draft for world civ 2 was great and to turn it in. I submitted my first milestone essay for Early Modern Europe this afternoon and I am ready to write the second one tomorrow morning. It is all material I am already familiar with so I can get through it pretty quickly. I had Intro to Political Thought opened up today, but I have not taken any time to look at it yet.
BA History & Political Science - History Concentration - UMPI - 2021
Done- Waiting for degree conferral

AA Graphic Design - Penn Foster - 2010

I am not sure if this has been posted before, but I just found out that you cannot receive the Management Information Systems minor with the BABA’s Project Management & Information Systems concentration. This is because they share too many of the same courses.

In order to graduate, I only need to take Organizational Behavior and two electives. I am tempted to take a couple courses that I know I can complete quickly, like Marketing Management and Business Math, and stick with the minor.

That said, I would only need to take three project management courses to add it as a concentration. I do not currently plan on becoming a project manager as my interest is more in information systems and the psychological study of management. It seems like certifications may be much more important for getting into project management. Though, if having a double concentration is much better than having a minor, then maybe I should go with that.

So, I am wondering, how much better is having a double concentration than having a concentration and minor?
Any thoughts/advise would be greatly appreciated.

I'd be surprised if you notice any difference in your marketability or career prospects whatsoever.

Well, no you can't complete both the concentration and minor. The minor courses are part of the concentration. Are you a YourPace student? There isn't a PM & MIS concentration in YourPace. There's the PM concentration and the PM and MIS minors.

You don't need to have 2 concentrations. If you want 2 then you have to select 2 that don't have course overlaps I believe. These are questions for your academic advisor.

My advisor notified me that the full title for the Project Management concentration is Project Management and Information Systems on the diploma. I thought it was odd as well because it is listed as just PM on the YourPace website. I also just wanted to clarify that you can't stack the MIS minor with the PM/IS concentration to anyone who is new/considering UMPI. Though, maybe it is obvious when seeing how the courses overlap Smile

I have discussed how concentrations/minors work at UMPI with my advisor. I meant to ask here on the forum about the marketability of having two concentrations from a career perspective.

Hi all! My bf scored a 15/20 on his final for ENG101 and is freaking out because that would mean it’s a C, right? He did he get an email saying he mastered the competency but is wondering if he failed the course

Since your boyfriend is 1 point below from a B, it's likely the professor will just mark it as a B- and pass it. If he is concerned I recommend emailing Cody and the professor to discuss how to make up 1 point.

That's weird about the title of the degree! Totally not what it says on YourPace. I wonder if that's what it is on campus.

If he got the email saying he mastered the competency, then he passed the class.

You're not challenging her. You're asking for clarification. We are given our Final Assessments and the professors are supposed to stick to the instructions we're given. If she comes back and wants it altered, this is when you go to Cody and explain the situation.

I'm noticing that all of the professors are no longer from UMPI. I have a few from the University of Maine at Kent which is the U of M campus to the north of UMPI. They have several programs in cohorts for on campus students. There are professors from this school now as well. This appears to be the first semester for them so they aren't familiar with the program.

Thank you for this. It was really encouraging. I was afraid as coming off as defiant which is not the tone that I want to set with my first course. I sent her an email to clarify if she was planning on changing the assessment and she said she wasn't. That's enough for me. I finally feel comfortable composing my draft. Smile
I bitch a lot and UMPI has always sought to make it right with me. I and a few others lodge a lot of complaints. They're very adamant about trying to fix and clear up things to make the next cohort's experience smoother. Their own President and Chancellor's sees the reports as they get filed. They take the CBE growth very seriously and they do want to know your feedback.

In fact in the last week you can log into a Bluera software and elave honest reviews about professors, classes, and more too.

Hi Ashkir, I logged into Bluera, I have not task or reports. How do I add anything on there and put in my review?

You have to wait for the last week of the term. This is when UMPI uploads your courses. It may be sooner. UMPI will send you an email when you can leave reviews. Each course will have one.
