I'm really mad at myself right now. I failed the COSC Cornerstone class, because I was going to turn my research paper in late (was sick). Apparently, you're not allowed to turn the final projects in late at COSC, so I ended up with a "D" in the class and will probably be placed on probation. This is the first time I have failed a class in long-long time, so I'm a bit discouraged. This class is also a foundational course, so that's also another reason why I'm upset with myself. It should have been a piece of cake, except I must have not read through the policies well enough. Also, in defense of the instructors...who the heck makes grades due the day after Christmas? That would make it hard for students to turn in anything late, for any reason.
I'm so upset and wondering, if this is my performance in the first semester cornerstone class...then maybe I ought to just give up. I've been thinking about it non-stop. Sorry for the whining, but I'm in a bit of a pity party slump right now.
Ugh.

The Cornerstone really isn't an easy course...it's writing and research intensive. I always advise people to get out in front of the assignments and be sure your on top of every due date...they will indeed fail you in the class.
What else are you planning to take at COSC? I didn't find the capstone to be as demanding...but you still face hard due dates.
I pulled a "B" in the cornerstone but an "A" in the capstone....everything else was taken elsewhere and transferred in.
Look at it this way...even re-taking the course (which your now well prepared for) your still going to be under the overall cost of EC or TESC. I would urge you to just bite the bullet and give it another go, it is doable.

I'm always happy to complete the free application waiver for those applying to WGU (I get a free gift from WGU for this). Just PM me your first/last name and a valid email so I can complete their form.

It's probably apocraphal (spelling?), but Thomas Edison was asked how if felt to fail so many times before finding the correct material for lightbulb filaments. His response? I didn't fail, I learned that 999 materials could not be used as filaments. Use what you've learned from taking this course to go forward. It's not how many times you get knocked down that matter, but how many times you get back up.
Pity party is over, now get on with the other things that you have to do to get the degree that you want.

mob,
If you had a passing grade (like a "B") before the final, I would appeal to the mentor and provide evidence of your illness (doctors note or a personal statement) this may help your cause or use this form to appeal. If your still sick or still show symptoms of being sick, go get a doctors not ASAP!!!!!! Maybe the receipts for the "NyQuil" and your statement will help.

Don't give up on getting a grade change, specially if you had a passing grade before the final. Good luck.

That's true about the overall cost being much less than the others, plus my advisor is trying to help me find tests to reduce the cost as well. I have been very pleased with all the help I've been given for understanding the degree planning process.
Yeah, I guess this taught me a pretty good lesson about pacing my assignments. I was making an A and then when down to a D once my paper was not turned in on time (I noticed they didn't give me the points for the CPS assignment as a result of the final paper being a 0). I didn't plan on being sick, but there were major lulls in the course where I could gotten an early jump on the paper and didn't.
So yes, need to get over the pity party and get back in there. It's just going to be hard since this was a major blow to my confidence. Feeling kinda like a failure, since this was my "last chance".

From your signature block, you started just a couple of months ago. I hate to burst you bubble, but this will probably NOT be your last failure. And what's with "last chance?" Until you're 6-feet under, you keep trying. You will learn that many of us on this forum did not succeed on our first degree attemp. Or second. Or third. Or...well, you know where I'm going. You know that you can do it, so you'll do it the next time. Quit beating yourself up. Trust me. There are enough folks out there happy to do it for you!

Thanks for the form bldclot2! I definitely give it a try. I kept the doctor's note for my work absences, so I have that, at least. My instructor has been very considerate and helpful, so I hope she doesn't get offended. I never saw the late work policy that I said anything about final papers, so I assumed it was the same as for regular assignments. (up to six days with point deductions).
Either way, I don't have a problem taking the class over, but it's kinda of a wasted effort since I would be turning in the same assignments. Thanks for your help and encouragement!
