FEMA Gen Ed electives at TESC?
#1
Hello,

I've gotten the impression that the FEMA courses are only good for free electives at TESC. Just to clarify this for myself, can I get any general education electives for any FEMA courses?

Would "Effective Communication", "Leadership and influence" and "Decisions and Problem solving" qualify as humanities since they are communication topics?

Thanks.

If I'm not mistaken there is one FEMA course that can be used for a humanity. I believe one can get NFA courses classified as "fire science". Other than that I think it's all general electives unless you get an emergency management or other related degree.

That's my understanding anyway.

Does anybody else know this conclusively? I'm 95% sure I got that right but would like to double check and find out which course is the humanities course.

Also looking to verify if this is true, only need two credits to fulfill my gen ed. So one Humanity FEMA and one Fire Science NFA, anyone know which ones exactly?

Ok found the answer to my own question.

et4tango Wrote:Step 1: Call or e-mail your advisor and get the approval of FEMA credits.
Step 1: Request transcript from FEMA .
FEMA will send you a sealed transcript for your college.
Step 2: With FEMA transcript on hand, download a "Nondegree Services
Application" from TESC website or call 888-442-8372.
Step 3: Fill application and note where you want the credits to go,
enclose transcript and full payment ($480).
Keep copies for your records.
Step 4: TESC takes about a month to review and transcribe your FEMA
credits, in my case 14 out of 17 courses were given credit, IS-242
was counted as a credit for the Humanities requirement
all the others
went to fulfill Applied Professional requirements. They did not give
credit for IS 00005A, IS00362 and IS00700, this breaks down to
34.28 per credit. TESC will send the credits to your college or you

I hope this helps, ask if you have any questions.

Sounds like it's a go for IS-242 Effective Communication. However, from what I've seen, the NFA courses even though they're fire science, do not apply as gen ed credit. Anyone have info that says otherwise? This leaves me one credit shy of completing my gen ed. Anyone know of anything out there that could fulfill that? Perhaps Info Literacy from ECE or PF?

I transfered a lot of FEMA credits to TESC as free electives for my BA Communications degree. TESC does not break them down the same way FEMA does, so, here's the TESC breakdown from my academic advisor per 2010.

Awesome, I glad these questions got worked out. I wonder if et4tango had to request that the credit be applied as a humanity? It reads as if no intervention was required.

TESC put effective communication as a free elective for me. I didn't request that they make it a humanity, but I would think that they would have put it there automatically if they count it as a humanity.
