FEMA Credits from Excelsior?
#1
Looking for some advice from someone who has done this... I've taken a bunch of FEMA tests. Basically, all the ones that this forum indicated that TESC would accept credit for.

I just enrolled in EC, but I can't figure out whether they'll accept the FEMA tests without going through FCC. Has anyone successfully gotten EC to give credit for FEMA? Will they accept credit directly, through a credit bank from TESC, or do you have to go through Frederick Community College?

FCC seems expensive...like 75/credit hour. So if I can get around that, I'd like to get the credits to transfer directly in.

your choices to get fema credits at Excelsior are on a transcript from
Fredericks CC ( semseter hour basis $75 per credit) Home - Emergency Management Study or Clackamus Community College ( they are on a Qtr hour basis $30 http://depts.clackamas.edu/crimjust/emreg-overview.pdf)

Cost to transcript a 1 credit Fema based on Semester hour:
at Fredrick's CC is $75 and you get credit for 1 semester hour at Excelsior
at Clackamas CC costs $30 and you get credit for .67 semester hour at Excelsior

So the cost to transcribe 30 fema courses thru Fredrick is $2250
and 30 course at Clackamus CC is $900 ( but you end up with only 20 semester hour credits)

The $900 is cheaper then one 3 credit course at Excelsior, so in that respect it is not so bad.

Hmmm. I wonder if Excelsior was the right choice then. TESC seems to take these credits without any third party, right?

I have about 30 FEMA courses completed...

Yes TESC takes them raw, but they still have to fit into your degree plan and there is a max they accept, note sure if it is 27 credits or 25 credits.

Depending on the degree you are enrolled in at Excelsior and the number of Applied Professional credits you need to fulfill, you may be able to use more fema credits at Excelsior then at TESC.

Ok, so here's what I found out:

EC will take up to 60 FEMA credits for transfer, provided that you have room for them in the degree. So, I"m doing a BSLS and have all of the upper level and A&S requirements met, and I need about left for the degree. All 40 are electives, so I can finish the entire thing with FEMA credits.

Like others have stated here, you have to transfer the credits through Frederick Community College, and they now charge $75 per credit. A bargain, considering that the courses are 1) free, 2) not very hard, and 3) open book!

Looks like TESC will only transfer about 25 credits total from the FEMA program, so EC is more flexible in this department.

I don't know... It doesn't sound like a bargain to me when I could be doing 3-6 credits for $72 (+ sitting fee if the test center has one) for a CLEP... Even with having to crack a book or study off a website for a couple days per test... I think the time + cost benefit is still on the side of the CLEPs...
Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Wile E. Coyote, genius. I am not selling anything nor am I working my way through college, so let's get down to basics: you are a rabbit and I am going to eat you for supper. Now don't try to get away, I am more muscular, more cunning, faster and larger than you are, and I am a genius, while you could hardly pass the entrance examinations to kindergarten, so I'll give you the customary two minutes to say your prayers.

Bachelor of Science in PsychoRabbitology degree
Master of Education with a specialty in Rabbit-specific destructive munitions (or eLearning & Technology, I forget which)
Doctor of Philosophy in Wile E. Leadership with an area of specialty in Acme Mind Expansion - 2017 Hopefully

I'm sorry, am I understanding that EC will take FEMA for any and all electives or applicable required classes up to 60?

It seems as if Clackamus has a 18 credit per term limit if you look at the registration form. I need to transcript a ton of fema credits to complete my degree at EC. Clackamus will save me $1k over FCC. I'll have to call tomorrow because this limitation is a deal breaker.
