Excelsior and Graded CLEPS
#11
soltran Wrote:G'day,

I have had it confirmed that anyone sitting the tests from January onward will not be given a graded score. My "A" has been removed from my online status report. The Student guide to credit by exam is correct while the online cut-off charts will be corrected.

Anyone (who has passed this exam this year) that has been given a graded score, there is a good chance that this will be "corrected" before the online status report becomes an official transcript.

Hi Ron-
Thanks for checking this out for everyone. My husband was hoping to still receive a grade for Principles of Management. It would have given him Magna Cum Laude honors if he had gotten an A. Your post will answer a lot of people's questions. G'day to you too!

G'day Dawn,

Yes it is a bit frustrating when you think you have an "A" and it disappears on you. I was hoping for another one today for Macroeconomics but as that isn't graded any longer either I miss out again.

Just as frustrating was trying to get the correct information out of Excelsior. First the wife was told they were no longer graded, I sent a message asking if I was to lose my "A" and was informed that they made a mistake and they were going to award the wife her "A". I asked them to double check before they did that and to either correct the student guide or the website and was informed that after re-checking the exams were definitely not graded and my "A" was removed.

If I wasn't so insistent in getting them to recheck, my "A" may have slipped through the cracks but I didn't want any surprises come graduation time and whether an exam is graded or not is part of the determining factor in deciding which tests to take.

So while I would have liked the "A"s as I am sure your husband would have, I think finding out now was better for me than finding out at the end.

Regards
Ron

I just enrolled with EC and I had taken some CLEP's last year that they did not award a grade for. I know not all tests were given letter grades at that time. I can not find the document I had printed at that time to reference which exams were given letter grades. Can anyone tell me if these 3 were awarded letter grades at one time, before they changed the policy?

Introductory Sociology 56
Principles of Marketing 60

Thanks

cbrchris,

Those three exams have been pass/fail for a long time, not just since the change in policy.

Hope that helps,

cederic824 Wrote:I think the reason you got an A and your wife got a pass has more to do with when you enrolled rather than when you took the exam. Since you enrolled in Dec. 2006, then you probably were covered by the policy of awarding grades for that exam. I'll bet you get a grade for Macro, too.
Colleges usually hold you to the policies in place at the time you enrolled, and they don't change until you either graduate or leave the program.
It is important that you keep a copy of the handbook from when you first enrolled so you can see if mistakes are being made.
No. I've been at ECE for a few years, none of my CLEPs have been awarded letter grades.
