I figure most have already seen this link but wanted to bring it to those who have not seen this yet. It shows one persons views of the various difficulty levels for each test. Hope this helps!

Hi Magic,
That web site was the first site I found when I started researching CLEPs. It is an extremely helpful site, and I still refer back to it regularly. However, the opinion of the 'difficulty level' of each exam is obviously just one person's subjective opinion, based on his own experience.
I think a message board like this is probably a more reliable place to research the 'difficulty level' of the various exams, because you can observe patterns from the 'collective opinion' of many people, over time.
If an exam is objectively difficult, you would expect to see a majority of people reporting it as such, and the same if an exam is objectively easy. One individual may find an exam quite easy, while another individual might find the same exam quite difficult. But if nine out of ten individuals think an exam is quite difficult, we are obviously getting closer to some kind of statistical consensus.
It's a bit like the lifelines on Who Wants to be a Millionaire. Do you phone a friend, or ask the audience?

I agree with Snazzlefrag completely on this one (of course!)
I work in IT and have for almost 20 years, and wouldn't call the Dantes MIS test a 1. It was easy for me, but I don't know that I would have Aced it without some prep, and she claims that anyone with basic familiarity with IT should be fine. I also would question Natural Sciences being a 2, simply due to the bulk of memorization that's required. If you are good at rote memorization (which I'm not) you'll have a very different experience than someone who recalls only things they understand well (me). I haven't taken Business Law II yet, but in my initial pre-preparation, feel like it will be much easier than the 4 she gives it due to the "logic" of the topic and my business exposure.
I would love to figure out some way for us to track how well people did compared to how hard they thought it was, and then to normalize the scores based on someone's overall success (scores) and cross-reference that with how much time people spent preparing. I know it's not a realistic project, but since my fantasy football league folded right before the season this year, the number-cruncher in me is fantasizing about the oddest things!
Of course, it would be cool if when people posted their scores, if they would rate the relative difficulty, and report on their prep-time and process.

Every test I've got lined up is a 4...
Oh, and Casey. No need to worry about that Business Strategy exam. It's been discontinued. Excelsior now lists this as a class that MUST be taken at a four year school. TESC has an exam but when I looked at the price I decided to just take the class somewhere. Now all that I have to do is convince them that even though I didn't take any classes at their school they should let me into a capstone course...
Great list though. I think I'll slip MIS into my testing list...

Microeconomics was "spot-on" with a Difficulty of 4.
Intro Psychology is, for me, a 3.

Statistics (not on the list but sounds like a solid 3 hour exam none the less. That's a lot considering that the longest I've spent on a CLEP exam is about 60 minutes with the average much closer to 40), Principles of Finance, Business Law 2, Money and Banking... Like I said I'll probably shuffle this if that info is correct. I was planning on taking MIS later. Might move that up a bit.
