If I stick with taking study.com Intro Stats (and it counts as my 2nd monthly course), I will still need a final UL SocSci course for my AOS. I could just sign up for another month and only use one of the available credit bearing tests, or I could do what my slightly ADHD brain wants to do, and try out another alternative credit option.
So my question is for those who have received credit for a Ed4credit course(s), especially (but not limited to), Aging & Society. I have looked at the syllabus, but it doesn't really specify how the course itself works.
A few questions off the top of my head (I'll probably think of more later):
- How exactly are the courses formatted?
- How do they generally compare in course-load/time need for completion to SL or study.com courses?
- Is the free Zika sample course basically how the other courses are laid out?
- When the word "test" is used on the syllabus, is it like the end of section "check your understanding" quiz-type thing that I am seeing?
- Can quizzes/section tests be retaken?
- Is there a way to study offline? [getting spoiled by the new study.com App]
- Does every video have to be watched/every page be read, or can I pick & choose?
Is there anything else that would be helpful to know before spending almost $300 on one course?

I noticed in the syllabus that there are comments relating to internet etiquette, and mention of not typing "all in caps". Are there interactive activities as part of the courses?

Hi Mamasaphire,
I am happy to answer your questions about our Ed4Credit courses:
1. How exactly are the courses formatted? - All current courses are laid out in modules. Every course has an eTextbook embedded into the course (except MIS â this one has an eBook from Cengage Pub). Each module has a module test. The final is a proctored cumulative exam based on the module tests.
2. How do they generally compare in course-load/time need for completion to SL or study.com courses? This I donât know.
3. Is the free Zika sample course basically how the other courses are laid out? No, the Free Zika course is totally different and for the general public to understand the virus. Itâs just a short video about the Zika virus.
4. When the word "test" is used on the syllabus, is it like the end of section "check your understanding" quiz-type thing that I am seeing? Each module test is set up for you to better learn the materials in that module. You must make a 70% or better on each module test before the next one will open.
5. Can quizzes/section tests be retaken? YES, module tests can be retaken as many times as you want. We see these as a learning activity. You will receive your highest grade on the exam, so if your first attempt was a 90% and your second attempt was an 80% you will get the 90%.
6. Is there a way to study offline? Our classroom is mobile friendly and in many of the course you can download the PDF eTextbook but we donât have an app yet.
7. Does every video have to be watched/every page be read, or can I pick & choose? The only required material is from the textbook. Everything else is to help you learn the material and is not required. All tests come from the textbook only.
Hope this information helps.
Tricia

No, posting is not a required activity. We have a message center in the LMS and we have an Online Student Center where you can post and talk with other students.

Hi Mamasaphire,
I also want to let you know that our prices have gone down because of the feedback we have gotten here on this site. We are now at $195 per course instead of the origianal $300 per course.
Let me know if there is anything else I can help you with.

Tricia, thank you for the detailed reply! And appreciate hearing about the new pricing -- hopefully that will increase your for-credit enrollment numbers

This is excellent! May be a great chance for my daughter to score some value credits. Would be nice to see them expand courses in the Psychology category.

One update to my earlier post. When we went through this last ACE reveiw they required that we limit the number of times a student could take their module quizzes to 2 times rather than unlimited.

It's strange that they told another company to limit quiz attempts to 3. Seems like it should be an across the board rule.
