Easiest/Quickest 1-Credit FEMA Courses

Lemurian_Spirit Wrote:Really? If that's the case I'm very glad. I no longer need the exam-specific info, so hopefully all will be well. Any clue on the 9.9=10 credits? Many thanks.

At TESC they "should" round it up....but I honestly can't say. I haven't had much experience with TESC outside of my transcript evaluation nearly 2 years ago.

Back to your subscription, yes, you do lose access to the "specific exam feedback" section, but you can still access the rest of the forum.

Thanks bunches,

If FEMA would just give me the credit instead of the CEUs I think all would be well. I hope they will do that. I will be talking to them and TESC on Monday. Many thanks.

Don't go by the CEU credit rating....go by what TESC says they give credit for tests. I don't think TESC gives any partial credit for FEMA's so I'm sure you're sitting in the green.

FEMA is only authorized to give CEU's not credits. TESC (and other schools) have evaluated them separately for credit only at their institution. FEMA is unique in that ACE or NCCRS have not evaluated the courses for college credit yet colleges will accept college credit for them.
Completed:
FEMA: 20 credit hours, B&M: 33 credit hours, AARTS: 14 credit hours, certifications
ALEKS: Intermediate Algebra, College Algebra
CLEP: Analyzing & Interpret. Literature CLEP - 66, English Composition Modular CLEP - 58, American Government CLEP - 58, Social Sciences & History CLEP - 63
DSST: Intro to Computing DSST - 452
Straighterline: Business Ethics (88%), Criminal Justice (94%), World Religions (93%), Cultural Anthropology (92%), Intro to Sociology (94%)
Sophia: Biology, US History I
Study.com: English Comp II, Presentations for the Workplace

Thanks Publius2k4 and defscarlett. I really do appreciate your help. If I thought I had to take another FEMA course I would have done it when I did the rest. According to the TESC list each FEMA course I took is one they accept. No credit value is listed on the TESC list. According to the FEMA list each course I took is worth 1 credit, though the number of CEUs varies. As mentioned previously, CEUs don't apply to a degree, so I just looked at the number of credits each course was worth. I needed ten credits, so took ten of these 1-credit courses. I what I find confusing here is that I specifically mentioned sending the transcript to a college and FEMA sends a transcript that only mentions CEUs, not credits. As long as TESC looks up each course and gives me the appropriate credit for it, that's fine, but doesn't that defeat the purpose of FEMA sending a transcript? I guess it's proof that I passed all the finals for each course, but it really seems odd that they would send a transcript that only mentions CEUs to a school that doesn't use them. Oh well.

There is only one other FEMA course I can find on TESC's list that is one I would consider taking just to be on the safe side, but I'm really ready for my Capstone, so will get the other FEMA out of the way today if I end up doing it at all (though at this point I'm leaning toward taking it simply because I want no unpleasant surprises regarding my final evaluation. Yikes. Had I taken just one more Straighterline course this wouldn't be an issue. Oh well. We live and learn, don't we? Many thanks everyone.

Stop the presses! I just took a look at Lady Grace of Pemberley's degree plan. She took the same three FEMA courses I took that were listed as less than one credit of CEUs and listed them as being worth 1 credit. I might still take one more FEMA anyway, just for good measure, but it is heartening to see that someone else has these same courses listed, but for 1 credit each instead of less.

Many thanks again one and all!

Hi Everyone,

Just FYI, I was finally able to speak with TESC (apparently they lost another day due to inclement weather). I'm really glad I spoke with someone because apparently, even though you would think that TESC would go by the credits listed for each FEMA course, they go by whatever is on the transcript. Since FEMA sends transcripts listing CEUs only for each course (as opposed to credits), that is what TESC accepts. I am really glad I passed another FEMA course this past Sunday. I wanted to be sure this was all done before the Capstone course started this week. I have requested another FEMA transcript and confirmed with FEMA that it (like the last transcript) will include all the FEMA courses I've passed to date (including this last one). That should put me .9 "credits" over (I say "credits" because they are actually CEUs). However, I purposely chose this last FEMA course because it was worth the same amount of credit as CEUs (1), so no matter how they do it I will either be .9 or 1 credit over what I need for the rest of my free electives. Sheesh! I will be so happy when all of this has been put into my evaluation!

Hi Everyone,

Just FYI, before I took the FEMA courses I needed 10 free electives credits. Now that TESC has received the first transcript from FEMA (before I passed the last FEMA course and ordered another transcript) and applied it to my evaluation (yes, under Free Electives) I thought I'd follow up.

Basically, they applied credit (as opposed to the CEUs that are listed on the FEMA transcript) to my evaluation. Including all free electives, for some reason my evaluation says I only have 26 out of 27 credits required, however, because I have overages in several areas on my evaluation, apparently some of the overage has been applied to my free electives. I have called on a couple of different occasions and spoken with a couple of different advisers at TESC who have both assured me that a) I have the required amount of credits for my free electives, and b) the only credit I need now is the Capstone course (that started two weeks ago).

At any rate, I thought I'd post this info in case it was helpful to anyone. I did get my updated FEMA transcript. According to it I now have 10.9 CEUs/11 credits. Even though the last TESC adviser said that they would ignore the latest FEMA transcript, I wasn't taking any chances and wanted to be sure the 10 remaining free electives requirements were met by the time the Capstone course started. That is indeed the case. I have submitted Chapter 1 for the Capstone course and am in the final stretch. Many thanks to everyone for all your help.
