I managed to rack up close to 150 hours without ever applying for graduation and now with an assortment of transcripts and having moved 3 times I would at the very least have to meet 30 hours or so of residency at a nearby school to graduate. I am almost done with the ENEB degree and wonder if it would work at least with ECE verification. It will take me another year to hit the 6,000 hours of experience required for the exam anyway, so if I have to pursue a Bachelors it will be a hassle, but doable.
Below is the requirement;
"CFP Board must receive an official electronic transcript showing conferral of a bachelor's degree or higher in any discipline from an accredited college or university. Accreditation must be recognized by U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree is awarded."
If you don't have a Bachelor's degree, you might run into issues when you go to graduate. ENEB expects a degree OR extensive work experience. A few people have managed to get past the initial screening, only to report that they couldn't have their degrees conferred until ENEB received proof of graduation with a Bachelor's degree.
I would suggest a Bachelor's degree from one of the Big 3 or UMPI.
COSC and TESU also require you to bring in at least 24 RA credits. Since you said you have 150 credits already, this shouldn't be a problem for you. I would suggest you head over to the degree planning section and make a post there with all of your credits. That way we can help you to find the right Bachelor's program for you.
- UMPI - Requires 30 residency credits. But these can be completed relatively quickly/cheaply because it's a competency-based program. Requires a foreign language and a science-with-a-lab.
- COSC - Requires 6 residency credits (capstone/cornerstone), 30 UL credits, science-with-a-lab. Cheapest of the non-competency-based degrees. Limited choice of degrees and relatively limited acceptance of alternate credits.
- Excelsior - Requires 7 residency credits (capstone/cornerstone/info literacy), 30 UL credits. Accepts some NA credits. Decent acceptance of alternate credits. Limited choice of degrees.
- TESU - Requires 6 residency credits (capstone/cornerstone) 12 or 15 UL credits. Decent acceptance of alternate credits. Wider choice of degrees than COSC or Excelsior. Most expensive option due to residency waiver cost.
Hm... One of the criteria is "actively pursuing," and that's how one of my friends managed to get his ENEB degree conferred - by enrolling in a Bachelor's program in some online university for $80 and sending them proof of enrollment.
Good point though, it's a relevant detail to plan for.
