I don't think this is accurate. I have seen posts where someone scored in the 60% range on a Uexcel and passed. I have seen posts in the 80% range scoring an A. I got an A on a Uexcel, and I did not get 90% correct.

I do agree that these tests are a little harder than CLEPs and DSSTs, and they are often based on specific texts, but I disagree that these tests are set up as 70%=pass, 90%=A.

Are you talking about the piece of paper that shows how you did on different portions of the exam? Due to the fact that there are ungraded questions, you can't actually tell what percentage you got correct on the graded ones when they give you the percentages overall.

Also, they don't give you one percentage. They give you percentages for each section, and different sections have different numbers of questions. I hope people aren't trying to average those without taking weighting into account.

My assertion that it's 70 for a C and 90 for an A is simply because that's how all grading at Excelsior is done, whether you're writing a paper or taking a quiz. There's no indication in their grading policy page that they take a different stance for exams.

You have taken more Uexcel exams than I have, so maybe you are right. But from my experience, this just doesn't seem right. Hopefully someone else can confirm one way or the other.

What doesn't seem right? They tell you up front that there are ungraded questions. And they give you percentage totals that would have to be weighted to add them up appropriately. I could take a picture of one of my results pages if you want.

I'll admit that I don't have conclusive proof of the 70% thing, but I'm going based on not having proof that they made exams different from all their other grading policies. I could be wrong, but I feel like they'd be up front about it.

My guess is perhaps the ungraded questions are primarily hard ones and they're trying to see if the questions are fair enough to include on future exams. This would give the impression that you are getting punished by lots of difficult questions that aren't going to count against you.

I looked back at my score report and weighing the averages, I got roughly 80% and an A. As you pointed out, this did include ungraded questions.

Mainly, I just don't want what you're saying to be true because I'm prepping for another difficult Uexcel right now, and you're making me nervous because of my practice test score.

I'm not trying to be argumentative with people, but do they actually say that anywhere? I'd like to know if they do, because I can't find anything either way.

I just know that if I get 20/25 questions on a quiz at Excelsior, that's 80% and that's the grade that they use in my average. There's no scaling of it for other assignments.
