ECE Cultural Diversity... The Hour Is Upon Me

The exam is Friday afternoon :eek:.

I am a very good test taker, but this one has me a bit stumped. From all of the information I have gathered, including EC's Exam Technical Handbook, it seems NOBODY EVER gets an A on this test ... :mad:

Mind you, I am confident that if anyone can do it, I can. I have 2 days left... I have all the terms in the texts memorized, I understand the concepts fully, and can differentiate between similar ones such as Equalitarian Pluralism vs. Multiculturalism. Still, I am looking for an A and no less.

I plan on spending the next couple of days HAMMERING in little, possibly insignificant, facts from both the texts and of course the notes that April004 has made available (which, I can almost recreate by memory item-by-item).

What tips, have you? Those who have succeeded in this test, how similar are the actual questions to those in the sample questions? Do you find that there are a lot of questions based on memorization of minor facts (like a couple of the sample questions are)? Has ANYONE gotten an A on this thing?

I have not taken Cultural Diversity but I have taken three other ECE's and earned one A and two B's. Based on that experience here's how I see it:

I knew much more about the subjects for which I received a B. Therefore, I conclude that there is a curve at work here. Cultural Diversity is likely an exam on which more people do well. Therefore, you have to score higher to earn an A. I don't believe that many, if any, of the section scores I received on the exam on which I earned an A were in the 90s--and some were in the 70s!

So, you're doing the right thing in your prep. ECEs are much more like real finals than CLEP or DSST exams. You have to know the DETAILS from the text they tell you to use. Also, it's very helpful to know the sample exams well because although you may not see those exact questions, you will see altered versions of them--or questions based on information presented in the wrong answers to the samples.

According to the exam technical handbook, the test is graded by percentage. 86% score and above is an A, which nobody seems to get. The incredibly vast majority get C's and plenty of people just fail.

I ended up with a B on this exam but I don't recall if I received an actual score along with it. I thought the test was incredibly vague making it difficult to study for. Even with the exam feedback it was a test that I would not want to take again. It's funny because it sounds like such an easy subject but it has so much broad material that it's almost impossible to cover everything. You'll do fine because you don't strike me as someone who slacks off when studying... :roflol:

In High School, I never studied and always knew the answers. Now I always study and never know the answers.

Alright, so it looks like you know the score you need (I didn't have anything called an "Exam Technical Handbook"--I just had the practice exams) so, based on this thread, all you have to do is select the correct detailed answers to incredibly vague questions and you'll be fine. Good luck!

I signed up for instacert today, and so have made my way to the specific exam feedback. It seems depending on WHICH version of the test, I will either have the opportunity to show my mastery of the subjects, or have to guess on a bunch of questions whose answers can not be found in any of the incredibly large books that Excelsior told me to buy. :nopity:
