Hello everyone,
I'm new to this so my sincere apology if the questions have been answered previously. I tried reading as many threads as I can but the amount of information available can be a bit overwhelming.
My goal is get a bachelor degree from EC by taking as many tests as possible. I understand that it's no longer possible to do this 100% via testing (capstone) but the closer I can get, the better. I would like for the degree to be somewhat IT related but not at the expense of having to take regular courses. I plan to complete everything within the next 12 months. I already know that I can test out of all the general education classes and I plan to start on that as soon as possible.
Which degree/major is best suited for this? Also, does anyone have a course plan/list that they can share?
Thanks everyone!

I don't have any plans for EC, but I do have a plan for TESC. I don't think you're going to be able to test out of very many IT, IS, or computer science courses at COSC, EC, or TESC. They do give credits for some IT certifications, though. WGU is another option to consider. They include the cost of earning certifications in the tuition. They accept credit-by-exam and Straighterline, but for most of the undergraduate courses that do not have alternatives, completing them at WGU consists of passing an exam or certification exam without coursework.

There are some here who've achieved IT degrees while testing out of certain classes. First question do you have and ICDL or other computer classes/certificates that are less than ten years old. If so Excelsior will transfer them in as credit which will cover some electives and possibly more. My ECDL (European Computer Driving license) got me six credits but it I had some duplications. You'll have to do some general ed courses to get you BS so you should consider humanities or A&I which would cover your humanities section of your degree. If taking a ten minute break from a research paper so I don't have time to go into it today. However focus on your general education CLEPs and DSST courses which should keep you busy for a month or two. Before you take the test make sure you check out the exam specific side of this forum. You have to be a member of Instantcert to access it but is worth the $20 per month and you can cancel at any time and they are very good about processing you cancellation too!
Don't forget that gaining college credit by taking exams is one of the reason's we're here. That's mainly possible through the flashcards made available by the owner of this forum : InstantCert Plus of course your hard work in learning and reviewing

+1 for Sanantone's recommendation. WGU has one of the best IT programs around because of their flat-rate tuition that also includes many industry certifications.... here are many of the certifications a student would earn while studying at WGU:
- CIW Web Foundations Associate
- CIW Web Design Specialist
- CIW JavaScript Specialist
- CIW Database Design Specialist
- CompTIA A+
- CompTIA Network+
- CompTIA Project+
- CompTIA Security+
- Microsoft Technology Associate (MTA) Windows OS Fundamentals
- Microsoft Technology Associate (MTA) Windows Server Admin Fundamentals
- Microsoft Technology Associate (MTA) Networking Fundamentals
- Microsoft Technology Associate (MTA) Security Fundamentals
- Microsoft Technology Associate (MTA) Software Development Fundamentals
- Microsoft Technology Associate (MTA) Database Administration Fundamentals

Thanks for the info. I didn't know anything about WGU until now. I have quite a few certifications from Cisco and Microsoft, all of which are recent. I noticed that WGU allows more IT cert conversions than the rest, so would it make sense to just work on getting a BS from there instead of EC since they're accredited? Do they have any residency requirement? I read through the admission requirement and didn't see anything listed.

I'm not sure what their residency requirements are, but I know that if you already have the required certifications they will transfer that certification in as credit for that course.
A word of caution with WGU: After you start your program at WGU, you cannot transfer in any more courses. So make sure you take whatever CLEPs or other CBE's you plan to take BEFORE you enroll.
If you'd like to apply there, PM me your email, and I can get your application fee waived.
