Dual BA/BS from TESC & EC

Anyone know if it's plausible or within the rules to obtain a TESC BA in LS and then EC's BS in LS?

Or would the option of a dual BA/BS has to be in two different majors?
Could someone enroll in both at the same time, or would they have to enroll in one then once finished, enroll in the other?

Any rules that suggest one method over others?

Why would you want two LS degrees? That makes no sense, and wouldn't be allowed because the degrees are too similar.

One is a BS and other BA

Both degrees do not have to be in LS, so something like TESC's BA in Natural Sciences/Mathematics would be fine. I'm trying to understand any rules on a second BA/BS from a different institution.


I've thought about switching from EC to TESC, however I didn't want to waste the EC's tuition and eventually finish there also.

Whlie reading the forums, I started to buy into the argument of a 'State College' in the name. Also, EC has a capstone so finishing at TESC could be faster and then, I could take my time to finish at EC since tuition is already paid.

Prior to this, I've always felt that having two BA's doesn't make much sense especially for those that has to pay for it all out of pocket like my self. So, it's just a consideration of looking at my options.

Well, if you really need or want to do this, TESC will insist upon at least 24 new credits for the second bachelor's, so if you look at the credit they give for exams or classes you may have, you could arrange so that you only need to obtain exactly 24 credits for, say, the BA in Nat Sci & Math.

I See, so it would be that EC would want 24 additional credits since if I do this, TESC's BA would come first.

Would this rule apply since he is wanting to be dual enrolled? I understand to get two degrees from TESC you have to have 24 new credits after the first degree. What if you had 144 credits total that would earn the EC degree with 120 credits, then the other 24 could be used for a different degree at TESC, would that work?

I highly doubt you can be enrolled at Excelsior and Thomas Edison simultaneously with them knowing about it and actually approving it. Pretty much any college has in its fine print rules against that. When you are looking at a college or degree program that says "dual enrolled" they almost always mean an agreed upon partnership between the degree granting institutions for some special program, like a combo MS/JD grad situation so you can be a newly minted patent lawyer with a hard science specialty. Stuff like that. They are exceptions to the rule and are set up and run by the colleges in cooperation. Just trying to enroll at TESC and EC and getting 2 bachelor's at the same time is different, and highly suspect.

I don't think this is as important as some people make it out to be. At my old b&m school you could get either a BA or BS in either Comp Sci or Math. The difference between the tracks was nothing more than taking 4 more specific hard science courses, with the balance being 4 less free electives. And someone who double majored Comp Sci/Math for a BA wound up taking more math and computer science than someone getting a BS in just one of those majors. So some people might think it's an important distinction but I don't think so.

And as far as Excelsior goes and how people on this forum usually get their credits, a BS is kinda' easier than a BA because of Excelsior's credit categorization. So YMMV.
