Does one have to be enrolled to take exams?
#1
Does one have to be currently enrolled in a school to take FEMA, CLEP, and DSST exams? I currently don't have the funds to enroll in school, but I figured I could still take some exams while saving for tuition. Is this possible or even a good idea? I understand that usually an advisor decides which tests you should take to complete a degree, but, as I said, I'm rather poor at the moment.

Thank you all for your time,
Takuan.

You can take exams and earn FEMA credit without being enrolled. There are a few threads here detailing how the tests will be transcribed. The only reason why you would need advisement is to make sure you don't duplicate credits you already have.

Just try to follow the general education and degree guides of the school/degree program you hope to follow. No reason to wait to test in any of those, just be aware of how you hope to use them and how each test will fit a degree plan.

Good Luck

I'm always happy to complete the free application waiver for those applying to WGU (I get a free gift from WGU for this).  Just PM me your first/last name and a valid email so I can complete their form.

Thank you both for your help. I downloaded the material to study for the "Emergency Program Manager" exam. It looks simple enough. Any advice for studying?

Thanks again

I typically recommend starting FEMA with the Professional Development Series Emergency Mangagement Institute | Professional Development Series (PDS) You earn a nice certificate for completing these and each can be turned into credit.

You sign up with FEMA and the exam questions are downloadable. One simply reads the material and answers the questions. Some are strictly online some are printable. For example to the right of this page: http://training.fema.gov/EMIWeb/IS/is240a.asp

Do a site search on here for "FEMA", lots of info available.
