Do Grad Schools consider CLEP on applicants?
#1
I've got earned 18 credits through CLEP examination, saving money purposes, and I will be applying for graduate school next year, since I was asked for a 3.0 GPA (which I do fulfill) will CLEP scores be considered or only my weighted GPA?

Anyone has got into Grad School somehow related this way?

thanks.

CLEP doesn't affect your GPA. Your GPA is based in courses you have grades in. None of my CLEP credits are related to my field of study in graduate school. How the school feels about CLEP in general could matter. You need to contact the school.

Check with the schools that you want to attend. They're the final arbiter (spelling).

Thanks guy, I think a call is needed here. clep3705, Indeed that's why I'm asking, the question that I have is: advantage or disadvantage not being weighted for my GPA?

Hopefully I receive a good reply by tomorrow.

Since CLEP is not weighted in your GPA you're getting caught up in the wrong question. The question is concerning ALL pass/fail credit.

The GPA criteria of pass fail credits is up to an individual school.

For instance, medical schools DO have opinions about pass/fail credits. There are professional programs that are very clear and specific to that field. You didn't say what field- but even if you did- advice regarding admissions amounts to.....well, exactly what you paid for it. Zero.

So for maybe 5% of the grad applicant pool, you'll need to understand the criteria and be sure to follow inside that criteria. For the other 95% of the world, it doesn't matter. This board is full of grad school students, many of which have earned 50-100 % of their degree through pass/fail credit. Myself included.

From my understanding, it truly depends on the program you are trying to get into.

There are some schools (Western Governors University for example) that do not award a GPA at all. However, many WGU graduates have gone on to some of the most prestigious graduate schools in the country. Some have even gone to law school.

Check with the program you intend to get into. They may have GPA requirements, but they might also be willing to waiver it. It's all in how you market yourself to them.

It is usually understood that a "pass" at WGU is equal to a "B." Most schools only require a 3.0 at minimum, although, that's usually not a enough to get in at highly competitive schools. In that case, you would have to have an impressive score on a graduate entrance exam such as the LSAT, GRE, GMAT, etc.
