Basically, I would refrain from taking too much of your time to thinking about the pilot training, that can wait. Your son should focus on working on the Associates and if possible at the same time, see what he can do to accommodate the adhd. With your help, your son should be fine, keep on trucking, slowly yet surely.

Another good thing about TESU is the fact that due to the fact there less UL required he could get a bachelor's in liberal studies after the associates if desired using mostly free credits to finish the degree.

Or COSC - 30cr of UL isn't too terrible (9 courses plus the capstone). And it would save you $2500.

True. And it would actually be one less if the video production course works in the aos and comes in as UL and maybe two the drawing but that's a D so probably not.
I think TESU if you pay the wavier fee for associates you have a year to get a bachelors without paying the wavier fee again. At least that is what it sounded like on the forum but maybe I'm wrong.
Either could be good option if the idea of a bachelor's degree is a possibility in the future.
An associate's degree in general studies, while it is an accomplishment, doesn't seem to open too many doors or opportunities. At least that is the case for me and I have three general associates degrees. It all depends on the person, and what they want to pursue though.

Thanks all! I knew you'd give me some good options. We'll see what TESU says and apply at COSC as well to see what their evaluation looks like. Definitely get some of those free credits while he can. Also, straighterline looks good.
Ok, yes he'd like to get a Bachelor's at some point and can possibly transfer back in some credits for his private pilot license.
As far as flying: This has been his plan for years now. My stupidity (and most of my money) sent him to the Citadel. Anyway, he was just above water there. He could conceivably finish there online/night school but they are traditional as far as credits go. Son has already talked to the flight dr. who will have to evaluate him for medical clearance. 90 days off meds, then a day or 2 of testing depending on what the initial testing indicates. I wish this was not his path as I think it will be a looonngg time before he can get all he needs to fly as a career but there is a pilot shortage. It will be a hard road for him but if it's what he wants to do I think we will find out immediately after he starts taking lessons whether he can make it or not.
TESC: BA and AA, Liberal Studies, History concentration, 2011
Regents College (Excelsior): AS, Liberal Studies, 2000
Trident Technical College: Certified Medical Assistant, Certified Nursing Assistant, EKG Technician, 1994-1996

Tesu gives credit for different flight related licenses and certifications. Idk which ones but it is on there website. Not sure about COSC. If i had to guess they woudlnt offer credit or it wouldn't be as generous or easy to apply to a degree as TESU. Im pretty sure TESU offers more credits for vocational/technical certifications than COSC just because COSC doesnt even offer technical degrees and TESU does.
Another option would be to finish at an associates at a local community college. Most community colleges (at least from my experience) only require 15 credits in residence and you can transfer in the remaining 45. This is how i got one of my associates degrees using mostly previously earned credits. This may be cheaper than COSC or TESU depending on the price of the college. But probably not faster unless the college offers short online classes 5 or 7 week or self paced courses. But just an option to consider.

Update: My son is working on the Public Speaking course through Sophia and TESU evaluation says he only needs these 2 other courses to graduate with his AA: Information Literacy 3SH (INSTITUTIONAL REQUIREMENT) (Not started)
To meet this requirement, students MUST take SOS-110 Critical Information Literacy at Thomas Edison State University.
Ethical Leadership 3SH (Not started)
Zero Textbook Cost (ZTC) option: ETH-230 Ethics in a Digital Age
I am hoping to sign him up for these 2 today and he can start tomorrow. This will cost $3054. My question is if these 2 courses are fairly easy? Any pitfalls? Does this sound like the best plan for him at this time?
He can go on to get his private pilot license and get credit for that at TESU toward a BA....thoughts??

For ethical leadership just take Intro to Ethics at Sophia.
And have him keep plugging away at more Sophia as to work towards a BA Liberal Studies.
Oh I just realized taking 6 credits at TESU makes sense for financial aid if you receive any.

Does he have to take the Ethics course through TESU? If not, you can take the Sophia.org course to fulfill it, I believe.
