Degree Plan Wizards - Help Please!

I didn't look up costs, but where there is one school there will likely be others.  The key being they offer these online.

EDIT:  Other CCs that offer them Online - (no doubt there are more)
New River CC (VA) https://www.nr.edu
Quinsigamond Community College (MA) https://www.qcc.edu/

Those are great resources - I went searching for similar info and was less successful than you were. For others who might follow this thread in the future, the cost for those schools is around $400 per credit hour for out-of-state students but their prices are much better for in-state tuition.  If you happen to be a resident of Massachusetts who is >25 (with no prior degrees), Quinsigamond might even have some financial aid for you!

Berklee also has many options for online music history and other courses, and each course is around $1550 (so a little more than $500 a credit.) Their classes are pricey but they look very interesting (to me). https://online.berklee.edu/

I have not found a Louisiana school with online options for Music. Louisiana Universities are also priced higher than the options we've discussed here. However, the local CC appears to have in-person Music History classes for around $200 a credit. The rub is that I'd have to attend in person, but I'm looking into it.

Since the music degree is not necessary for my current career path, I'm not sure I want to spend $2-3K on two online music history classes. It may be more beneficial for me to spend that money on business classes or certifications (or both).  I'm still going to have a degree evaluation done by TESU. Maybe the results will surprise me.

You all have given me a lot to think about so far, and I'm so appreciative. I already see options I didn't see before my post yesterday.

Okay, so, looking at the REAL degree plan for the BA Music, it appears that TESU is actually looking for any two classes about Music History, not just Music History I/II.

Georgia Southwestern has an online certificate in Pop Music. https://www.gsw.edu/arts-and-sciences/mu...-media/pop If you can take the courses without agreeing to finish the certificate or having to complete other non-history classes there, total online tuition for 6 credits is about $1000. https://www.gsw.edu/student-account/tuit...n-resident (online is significantly cheaper than the in-person, so scroll down to that section).

East Tennessee State has a "free" (plus $300 transcription fee) course called Intro to Music. https://www.etsu.edu/online/openbucs/ It appears to be a Music History class. You'd need to see if TESU would accept it as such.

As already stated, you could also (probably) take The Music of the Orthodox Jew from Antiquity through the Twentieth Century (MUS-301) at Coopersmith for $150 plus either a GSW music history course or the ETS course from above to meet requirements.

If TESU accepts both the Coopersmith and East Tennessee State classes, that'd be $450 and your BA Music would, essentially, be done when you completed the BSBA of your choice.

While you're doing all that thinking, go ahead and apply to TESU, and send in your transcripts. It'll give you more information, and make sure you can hit the ground running when you do decide what to do.

I was looking back at old posts, apparently TESU used to have the Music History I & II as TECEPs. All reported posts of them being a nightmare to pass, which may be why they don't exist anymore.

And here is the best find yet (imo); as they're self-paced, start anytime, open to all, admission to BYU not required, etc...
- Basically all the things we hope to find for those on this forum, so I'm going to come back up the rabbit hole now Smile
BYU Independent Study - each 3 credits for $717.00 'plus textbook(s)', which appear to be an additional $60 (total)
Civilization: Music 1 - https://is.byu.edu/catalog/MUSIC-201-M001
Civilization: Music 2 - https://is.byu.edu/catalog/MUSIC-202-M001

Those old Music History TECEPs sound like a nightmare, I am almost relieved they are no longer available. The BYU option seems promising though. I will report back if I end up taking those.

Yes, if you take them, please let us know. We've had students curious about the BYU experience, but not many people have actually reported taking them. So we don't know how they compare to other courses we might otherwise recommend.

TESU evaluated my credits and suggested the BALS with humanities concentration. I don't need the Music History courses. TESU tranferred my credits generously and I need 18 credits to finish - mostly lower level courses available thru Sophia:
English Comp 2
Am Gov
Public Speaking
1 more humanities credit (above 1000 level)
Capstone
Cornerstone

I already finished Sophia Visual Comm (works for humanities) and Am Govt. I'll finish up English Comp and Public Speaking with Sophia just to save $.

The plan is to enroll for November and finish courses in January for a March graduation.

It's unbelievable I could actually complete a degree soon, thanks largely to your help and suggestions. You all are the best!

Hmm, Just wondering... Have you checked if another concentration such as social sciences or the no concentration was closer to finishing? Actually, if you have enough RA credits, you can just complete the bulk of those using Sophia, Study.com or another provider of your choice such as CLEP/TECEP, NCCRS options, etc... Congrats on getting this far! Great work!
