Trying to pick a major
#1
I have a certificate in Pharmacy Technology from a technical school and I'm currently working as a Certified Pharmacy Tech. It seems to fit me well and I'm doing well in terms of pay, but I'd like to go back and finish my bachelor's degree.

I have a couple semesters of college from when I was straight out of high school (I'm in my mid 30's), but I was caring for a sick parent at the time and wasn't able to stick with it. It was just here and there. I was originally majoring in Psychology, but I mainly just worked on getting my general education requirements out of the way. I'd like to pick a major that complements my current field. I was kind of looking at the BA in Biology from TESC, but I'm not 100% sure on that. In tech school, I had to take General Biology, Anatomy, Pharmacology, etc - and I really enjoyed it. I'm also still interested in Psychology.

These are the classes I've previously taken:
Greek Art & Archaelogy
Bioethics
General Psychology
Abnormal Psychology
Intro. to Sociology
English Comp I
English Comp II
PC Operating Systems

Please tell us a little bit more about your career goals. Do you want to be a pharmacist, physician's assistant, nurse, or physical therapist someday? Would you like to run a pharmacy as a business manager? Would you like to be a clinical psychologist? There aren't a lot of great jobs for biology or psychology degrees. Often those degrees are used as stepping stones to a higher level degree where the higher degree is the one that actually qualifies the person for a particular job.

I don't have any plans on becoming a physician assistant, pharmacist, psychologist, etc. I enjoy the field I'm in now, though I would eventually like to work in a hospital (I've done retail and long-term care). I have been told I'd be more likely to get a hospital job as a Senior Technician with a degree. But more than anything, I just want to finish my degree.

I was reading about the Health Science program at Excelsior and that sounds interesting to me. It looks like they will grant 24 credits for Pharmacy Tech certification (which I have).

COSC has a health studies program that I believe will also give you credit for your certification. You can call and ask them. It's more flexible than the Excelsior program.
