DSST Highest score possible?

I took the Ethics in America DSST test yesterday and passed with a 458 (the lowest passing score being 400). I'm wondering how good/bad this is? What's the highest you can get? Does a score of 400 = 50% wrong/50% right, like a CLEP 50? I've also passed the Intro to Computing with 430 and the Technical Writing with 64.

Hi there,

The new DSST's (passing score 400) goes up to 500 points total. In other words, you didn't do too bad at all As for your second question, they do scale the scores based on a few factors. You can read more about that here - http://getcollegecredit.com/images/uploa...100108.pdf

They do not want you to know what percent wrong equals what grade they have a complicated equation. The CLEP 50 does not mean you got 50% right or wrong the CLEP grades only go from 20-80 and if you look hard enough there are places that tell you recommended grades for B and/or A equivalents. Most people don't bother because a pass is a pass it doesn't matter if it was 51 or 80. Some schools do have minimum passing grades they set them selves that would be the only time that the grade matters. I am not sure but I think the new DSST are 400-500

All that being said I did find those grade equivalents somewhere at one time and I did look and all but 1 of my exam grades would have been an A. Although that means nothing to anybody except me.

Of course they don't tell you exactly how the raw score is scaled, but it does explain the process. The DSST exams are covered in the document that Linda and I posted earlier, but I thought you may find the CLEP one more illuminating since it does explain it in a bit more detail.

A 400 on a DSST exam is not 50% correct and a 50 on a CLEP test is not 50% correct. This is a myth which I tried to dispel here:

Very nice post. I always cringe when people say they've figured out the exact number of questions needed for a pass. Collegeboard/Prometric keep it close to the vest for a reason, and it wouldn't surprise me at all to know that different versions of the same exam have a different scaled score for the exact same amount of correct answers.

Edit: Not even sure that last sentence makes sense to anyone except me, but I know what I meant!

@ chebasaz I knew what you meant does that mean we are both on the same wacky wavelength?

@clep3705 That link is exactly what I read and what I was trying to say earlier. I think some people confuse it because of the Peterson practice test and that if you can get at least 50% on that you can pass the real thing. I have never gotten the same thing on all 3 petersons or on any of them and the real thing so I think people are mistaken to believe that.
