You're not going to believe this, but I got my score for History of the Vietnam War today....ELEVEN (11) DAYS after I took the exam.
Is this a new world record?
I hadn't even begun to watch for the mailman yet. I try not to even think about it until day 14. But here we are on day 11, and I got my score!
What a wonderful surprise it was...I got a 70.
Despite the high score, I still wouldn't recommend this exam unless you really need it, or have a love of history. There are many 'easier' exams available.
Thanks, as always, to those who helped me with this one,

Knew you would do it! Congratulations! Your study methods obviously work well!
Just out of curiousity--did anything about the River Rats come up in your study? I just found out a few years ago that that's what my dad was. He never talked about it though.

I did come across them in my studies simply because control of the rivers and canals of the Mekong Delta's "Rice Bowl" was so vital to US operations. But they weren't specifically mentioned in the factsheet, and it wasn't covered on the exam itself. But if they HAD been on the exam, I would have been prepared!

I have nothing but great respect for ANYONE who fought in ANY war. It's a terrible, tragic thing...war!

Snazzlefrag, you must have an inside track with those DSST people.
Great job! Awesome score!!!
I too have tremendous respect for anyone who fights in a war. No one wins and yet sometimes we have to fight. Otherwise, we'd all be speaking German.

No College Math for me, thank goodness.
At some point, I WILL need to pass College Algebra though. But not just yet!
I am tackling DANTES Organizational Behavior next...hopefully this week, if I can get a slot at the test center.

Well,
I am going to take the Vietnam DSST tomorrow. I am a little nervous since Instantcert didn't have flashcards, but I looked at the links posted in this thread. I also borrowed a book called Vietnam War Almanac from the library on post. I took the sparknotes quiz and scored very high. Wish me luck. Oh, and thanks in advance for the links and other thoughts on this thread.

Well, I took the test. I am pretty sure I passed. DANTES questions are so different from the CLEP ones IMO. It went a little more in depth on some areas than I expected. Most of it was focused on the political figures than the battles. The Phoenix Program was nowhere on the test. I found that strange. Neither was the Strategic Hamlets.

We'll be waiting to hear the results, Barry, but it sounds like you did great.

Hi Arbornmedic,
It sounds like you did great. Isn't it strange studying for an exam without Instantcert? I was a bit nervous going into this exam because I had to find ALL my own study material, and so I wasn't quite certain that I had covered all my bases. But I did fine, and I'm sure you will too.
I also think that the DANTES questions are more complex than those we usually see on the CLEP exams. Then again, CLEPs are timed. So we would expect them not to include too many questions that require more than a minute or so to answer.
On the plus side, we don't have to worry about time on the DANTES exams, and the way the exams are scaled usually provides a boost for our own scores.
My particular version of the Vietnam exam did actually include questions about both the Phoenix Program and Strategic Hamlets. As you know, there are several versions of each exam. So it's likely that your version of the exam also covered some things that were not covered on mine. This makes sense, because it is not possible for them to cover every possible item in just one exam. But they still expect us to know about ALL the various items, just in case they show up on our version. So the multiple-version system allows them to test us on a selection of items whilst, at the same time, forcing us to learn other items even though they may not actually appear on our exam.
I suppose that's a good thing. But it can be frustrating when you focus on a certain thing, and then it doesn't even appear on the exam. If nothing else, it keeps us on our toes!
Anyway, please let us know how you do.
All the best of luck for your exam tomorrow too,
Snazzlefrag
