I am satisfied, I don't care what the put the credits under I just wanted assurance I would get them.
Damn. I'm in the BA in Liberal Studies program at TESC. If they assign ALEKS Beginning Algebra to Free Electives, that doesn't help me at all. I've already completed all of my Free Electives. I was hoping it would be assigned as another math course instead, with ALEKS Intermediate Algebra fulfilling the primary math requirement. If it does fall under Free Electives than I'll have to take another Dantes exam in sciences to get 3 more credits I need, probably Physical Geologgy. The problem I have is two-fold: I need to satisfy either another math or science course, which I was hoping Beginning Algebra would do but I guess now DSST Physical Geology will, and I have to take DSST Environment & Humanity regardless in order to have an upper level computer course moved down on my evaluation. I need that last class moved down to satisfy 1 of the 6 upper level courses we are required to take**.
So in order to have everything done correctly by July 1st, the cutoff to apply for graduation in October, I guess all of this means the following for me in order to finish on time:
1. I need to take DSST Organizational Behavior next week.
2. I need to take DSST Environment & Humanity by the end of March.
3. I need to take HIST-310 The Middle East through TESC starting in April and finishing at the end of June. The grade for this course will give me my GPA at TESC.
4. I need to take DSST Physical Geology before the end of June if ALEKS Beginning Algebra counts only as a Free Elective.
Does this all sound right? I've attached my updated degree plan if that helps. I'd appreciate any help in reviewing this. Thanks!
**- Right now on my official academic evaluation the upper level computer course I took in the Navy (TESC equivalent is COS-332) falls under an extra computer course but I need this moved down to the Liberal Studies courses area to satisfy having taken 6 upper level courses. This is why I need either ALEKS Beginning Algebra or DSST Physical Geology to be accepted. I'd prefer Beginning Algebra of course since I've already completed that course.

After 3 agonizing months, I finally assessed at over 70% on ALEKS Beginning Algebra. I actually just made it over the hump this past Friday 02/26/2010. I am enrolled at TESC in the BA of Liberal Studies program. I was under the impression that Beginning Algebra would satisfy the 3 credit college-level Mathematics requirement as MAT102. I never wrote to TESC and asked for permission because so many others were getting the credit.
Will ALEKS Beginning Algebra fulfill the math requirement for a BA in Liberal Studies?
I have no confidence in math and I don't think that I can go through this again.
I'm pretty sure that ALEKS Intermediate Algebra will satisfy the primary math credit and not Beginning Algebra. The question I'm waiting on TESC to answer is whether Beginning Algebra will count as a secondary math course or as a free elective. I'm hoping for the former rather than the latter.
It's not too bad though for you, Intermediate Algebra and Beginning Algebra are VERY similiar. I'd suggest using Mathway and/or Algebrator. Trust me, I'm as much a mathphobe as you are. :ack: They definitely help!

No, trust me, it is really bad for me! Math is the only thing that I had left to complete if my score comes in high enough on English Comp w/Essay.
I know I should have gotten something in writing from TESC prior to going the ALEKS route, but I thought ALEKS Beginning Algebra satisfied MAT102. I was certain that others on the forum had received Mathematics credit for that course. I don't understand how they can change their minds on this within the same academic year.
The TESC college catalog for 2009/2010 states:
BA in Liberal Studies Credit Distribution...
D. Natural Sciences and Mathematics 12
One college-level mathematics course required (3)
One computer science course recommended (3)
Other natural sciences/mathematics (6)
The ACE credit recommendation for ALEKS Beginning Algebra states:
Credit Recommendation: In the lower division baccalaureate/associate degree category, 3 semester hours in math (1/07).
I'll let you know for sure what TESC says about my Beginning Algebra course once I find out. If you have to take Intermediate Algebra don't sweat it! It really is very similiar, many portions are the same as Beginning. I took the second right after the first and was surprised.

Oh boy, it's Monday so I guess you guys have enough time in the week to get a straight answer from them. I just double checked my evaluation for my BA in LIBERAL ARTS and Beginning Algebra shows up as MAT102 but has shifted to the GE only because I took the other ALEKS math courses as well. They seem to shift the highest math course into your math requirement. However, when I got my AA in LIBERAL ARTS the MAT102 fulfilled my math requirement and it was the only math I had at the time on my evaluation. I think it's good that you're calling because there is the possibility they may have changed their conversions again.

Stop. You and John need to just hold up for a second. John applied, so in a few short days (weeks) he will get an eval, and we will all be waiting on pins and needles to see where they place that credit.
Listen, most schools call beginning algebra "remedial" and don't give it 100 level. Wayyyyy back when ACE evaluated the beginning algebra and assigned it as college credit, TESC jumped in with the 100 level math credit. (duplicating 1/2 of the CLEP college math). Now, as you have noticed, the past few weeks have been hairy with this class, it it is probably due to the fact that we have some new advisors. An advisor from JoeBlow University is coming in and seeing the title and automatically answering the question without knowing that TESC has allowed this class as a 100 level. Be patient, and if you have an extra $20 you could just try to start the intermediate- just to get going IN CASE you get the beginning level as elective credit. If not, and it ends up as a 100 level math, then you can decide if you want to jump ship or finish the intermediate. CYA.
And a few posts back someone asked if CLEP college algebra duplicates the other MAT121 algebras- the answer is yes. Do NOT take any of the ALEKS MAT121 classes and the College Algebra CLEP. (College Math is ok though- no matter what, you'll get at least 3 credits, possibly 6)
I'm sorry if I scared anyone. All I was saying is that Dr. Keel said it has to be looked at for each student by that students advisor. He was just saying it may not count as a math or science course for some people. I think both he and others were upset with me because i am going for a Natural Science/Mathematics degree. They do not think I should use begining Algebra to meet my math requirement for that degree. They didn't realize I already had College Algebra and Trig. to meet those requirements.
I would just say call and speak to Nia Abuwi, she seems to be the most liberal and knowledgable about this course.

i have been reseraching with my local college: Gulf Coast Community College and Florida State Univeristy admission office. i have spoken with the Director of the admission office both at GCCC and FSU about ACE credit recommendation. they say they accept ace credit recommendation ONLY military who enrolled at fsu or gccc.. they said it is strict policies in florida however i did applied Fort Hays State University and waiting for admission to send me the information and approval thats i can take straighterline course for credit. GCCC and FSU say they accept credit from FHSU however they dont accept credit from Lake City Community college and other college from straigherline partners.. they are looking for regionally or national acceridation. I have 54 credit at gccc because i am struck with math requirement part of general education requirement because it is A.A can be transfer to any college in florida. so i just let you know about this thoughts and i am glad to hear your suggestions.

I think it would be downright cool if they can get their Chem & Accounting courses ACE approved... And it would be a MAJOR boon for people going after business degrees (Well, the accounting, the chem would be sweet for anyone going for a degree if it was approved.)
