Credit-by-Exam from CSU Global!!!!!

Can you tell us which textbook CSU recommends for Information System Analysis and Design? And how soon is it possible to take the test after enrollment?

It's Essentials of Systems Analysis & Design 6th ed. by Valacich, George, and Hoffer. The book is so expensive new or used, I ended up renting the previous edition. I hope it's enough.

When you fill out the application, you have to choose a start date. I think they have A, B, C, and D start dates for each semester. What they didn't tell me is that you have to turn in a document to sign up for the CBE. I was told the form was in the student portal, but it wasn't and the advisor had to upload it. After you do that, then you will have access to the prep area (if they aren't having technical issues with your account), and you can schedule the CBE as soon as you're ready after your start date. Signing up for their CBEs is not nearly as easy as signing up for a TECEP; they're still trying to figure things out.

I can only answer some of those questions right now. I'm hoping to take the exam during Spring Break. You indicate your start date on the application. IIRC, the application fee is $25, but I used a coupon code. If you contact enrollment to express interest, they might send you a coupon code before you apply. I do not know if you have to wait until after the start date to register for the CBE, but I'm pretty sure you can't take it until after the start date. Registering for it does not cost anything. You pay the $250 when you schedule the CBE. I also do not know how long you have to take it. I'm assuming that it's somewhat like TESC where you have to take it before the term is over even though they give you 12 months to retake the exam if you fail. I really could be wrong on this.

The prep area is supposed to contain topics you should study and practice questions. I haven't taken a look at it yet because, the last time I logged in, they were having technical difficulties with my account. Maybe if I dig a little, I can find the transcript fee, but I can't find it right now.

This is a very interesting thread. I just got off the phone with CSU Global and it looks like if you take 6 credits of online coursework with them, you can use any residual financial aid to pay for the CBE exams. Financial aid cannot be used to pay for the exams directly. In regards to a book lists, the advisor that I spoke with stated that the textbooks for courses are only shown in an online portal that can only be accessed after application. I will definitely be keeping an eye on this thread for your updates! Thanks for the research Sanantone!

The online proctoring service CSU Global uses is Kryterion. You can also set up your own proctor. The learning management system they use for the CBEs is Schoology. In the course materials, you will learn what is on the exam and be given links to videos and articles to help you study.
