Credit-by-Exam from CSU Global!!!!!
#31
Please keep us updated on how the study resources are, and how TESC rates them in the transfer. I'm not able to buckle down in anything until I finish moving across the country, but those exams look like they'd be great.

With the warning that TESC will only accept these exams if they are on a CSU Global transcript as college credits (which they will be), the business advisor told me which exams will be accepted but not the equivalencies. I didn't ask about most of the business tests that obviously have CLEP, TECEP, Uexcel, Straighterline and DSST equivalents.

Who all has been calling CSU Global? I had a voicemail from an enrollment counselor asking which school I'm transferring credits to because they've received a huge uptick in calls from students only wanting to take CBEs. hilarious I told him TESC and that they also might receive calls from EC and COSC students. He said he's heard from them and also Southern New Hampshire University students. He's informing his supervisor. I'm assuming that they're going to update their website or do some kind of article about other schools accepting their CBEs. The worst case scenario is that they'll disallow non-matriculated students from taking the tests, but I don't see why they would do that because this could be a big moneymaker for them.

I worry that pulling these will be the first reaction. I can only hope they can see the amount of exposure that it provides to their school as a positive force; one that could easily be harnessed to allow them to enter a niche market of extremely loyal customers (us).

I hope they do not mistake the CBE demand for lost revenue from the classes they offer, due to not fully understanding our customer segment. With the minimal cost to offer and administer exams, I'd imagine they could make quite a profit. They could also easily turn this increased recognition into additional profit by pricing distance classes to be a slight premium over the exams offered, as many students would choose this for the more difficult subjects.'

Should be interesting to see how this plays out.

Oh, yeah. Most of the people calling them about CBEs will not attend CSU Global regardless. If I couldn't take the Information Systems Analysis and Design CBE with them, then I would just take the course from Adams State University or complete a PLA. Even though the course would cost me $600, it would still be a lot cheaper than having to deal with their residency requirements.

Some more cool information. If you fail an exam, you're allowed one retake at no additional charge. They encourage you to take the exam again within 30 days (I don't know why), but you're given 12 months to do so. Did I ever mention that the exams can be taken online? I'm assuming they use ProctorU.

Submitted an enquiry to a TESC BA advisor as to whether the following CBEs would transfer as UL Natural Sciences credits:

HCM460EX: Introduction to Healthcare Strategy (3 credits)
MIS300EX: Information Systems Design and Management (3 credits)
MIS350EX: Information Systems Analysis and Design (3 credits)
MIS440EX: Cloud Computing and Big Data (3 credits)

And... the advisor confirmed that MIS300 and MIS350 may transfer as UL Nat Sci credits, CIS-311 and CIS-320 respectively. Yay! Big Grin HCM460 and MIS440 won't classify as Natural Science courses though.

I'm glad the school of arts was able to give you specific answers. I think the senior academic advisor for the school of business is getting annoyed with all of my questions. I did submit to her a long list of business CBEs. :p

Sanantone,

Can you tell us which textbook CSU recommends for Information System Analysis and Design? And how soon is it possible to take the test after enrollment?

Thank you in advance.
