Thanks for posting about these exams and following up. These have the potential to be a great option for lots of people - self included.

barbeque22 Wrote:Strayer's credit by exam are only $20 paid directly to ProctorU. You take them at home via webcam. The list can be found here.

Available Challenge Exams | Strayer University

There are hundreds of courses including many accounting and IT courses which can be hard to find.
But you either climb in bed with the likes of Strayer....yuck, no....or you have to work hard to finesse the and game the system (I have no qualms about you playing Strayer) but it's too much work for most people....and how many classes can you really get this way? Whats to stop them from refusing to send your transcripts out if you don't actually do some classes? Be careful, these people are snakes.

I'm always happy to complete the free application waiver for those applying to WGU (I get a free gift from WGU for this).  Just PM me your first/last name and a valid email so I can complete their form.

I am saying that when I asked they said I had to be a student. I applied and paid the $50 application fee but have never actually taken a class with Strayer. I took a few challenge exams via ProctorU and waited and waited for them to post. The Enrollment Counselors told me they normally post within 2 weeks but the only reasonable answer why they hadn't posted was that I was not an active Strayer student. I did some research and ended up emailing the guy who was responsible for all Challenge exams at my local Strayer location. He never responded, but magically a few days later I got an email saying they had been added to my transcript. Not sure if it just took more time or if he went out and found them for me and had them posted. So far I have Int I,II,& II Accounting and am taking Audit this weekend and will sit for Cost next week.

I am currently studying for the FAR CPA exam so all of this is very familiar to me. I would not recommend taking the accounting challenge exams without studying the stated text - version specific (luckily all of mine have been based off of prior year versions).

I'm happy for you, glad its working out....I just don't trust Strayer and your method probably isn't for everyone. Please let us know how it all turns out for you.

I found this information on the CSU Global website about enrolling with a non-degree seeking status. I wonder if this means that a non-student could take 15 hours of these exams.

Quote:Many students enroll with a non-degree seeking status instead of starting right away in a bachelor’s degree program. This allows you to earn a Certificate of Completion or finish a couple of courses if you don’t currently meet our full undergraduate admissions requirements.

You may complete up to 15 credit hours at CSU-Global with non-degree seeking status. Once you meet all of the requirements, you can choose to enroll in a bachelor’s degree program and transfer the credits you've earned. Please note that non-degree seeking students are not eligible for financial aid.

Huh. You know I never really thought of TECEPs and the Ohio U. exams as challenge exams, but I guess that's only because I found out about them the same way and at the same time that I learned about CLEPs and DANTES, which are fundamentally different after all. Makes sense though.

That's how I read it. And a 15 credit cap isn't too bad since people on this board would probably only take the harder to find upper level ones. No one here would take the CSU-global "U.S. History" exams over the CLEP, for example.

I received a call back. The admissions person said that I would have to apply as a non-degree seeking student. He doesn't know if the 15-credit limit applies to exams, but as Kaz said, many of the other exams overlap with other CBEs. I would possibly only be interested in taking three or four of their CBEs. After you apply, you will get access to their student portal where you can talk to an advisor and maybe see a study guide for their CBEs. He wasn't quite sure; a non-degree seeking student wanting to just take exams is all new to him. I'm used to asking bizarre questions and getting confusion. LOL.

The senior academic advisor of the business school at TESC confirmed that credits earned by CSU Global's CBEs will transfer as long as they are on a CSU transcript and apply to your degree program.
