Cracked the CLEP "Scoring Secret"?!!!
#1
I was trying to figure out how many questions I would need to get right to achieve a certain score. So far, everything I have read about the CLEP scoring method states that it is a weighted score, and that it is shrouded in mystery.

Analyze this:

FACT: The lowest possible score is a 20. The hight possible is an 80.

FACT: Approx. 1/2 the questions on the test must be successfully answered to get a 50, or a pass.

Now, the hypothesis: In a 100 question test, such as Sociology and many others, there are only 60 possible points (between 20-80) for 100 questions.

60 points divided by 100 questions = .6pts

If each questions is worth .6 points, 50 correct questions = 50q X .6pts = 30pts

You must add 20 since 0 correct questions = 20pts.

30 points + 20 points = 50 points, or a pass.

Now:

If each point in a 100 question test is worth .6 points, 100 questions X .6 points = 60; 60 + 20 = 80.

By this formula, answering 75 questions correctly would translate to a score of 65.

What do y'all think?

Some of the questions are "pre-test" questions, and not counted toward the total score. Also, we don't know if each question is equally weighted or not.

I am positive my versions of Sociology, Management, Marketing, and American Government were all a solid 100 questions--not including any pretest questions in that total. Some tests I have taken were less. I believe A&I Lit was 87 questions instead of the total 90.

And, if we don't know if the questions are equally weighted ...

Does anyone see any weight to this, or is it just flat out cooky?

So it IS somewhat weighted due to difficulty. Well, that's good to know. I kinda thought it was, but then again, I wasn't 100% sure on that.
