ryoder Wrote:Sorry, I just read that ITT is NA accredited. TESC requires RA I believe. But I think Exelsior College will transfer NA credit, so check them out.
You can also just CLEP all of the GEN eds now and see what UOP says about it.

If a 15 credit residency is ok, I'd look to APUS since they offer CLASSES while TESC accepts classes. Their tuition is also pretty cheap (under $250) and other than that, it's like TESC in almost every other way when it comes to flexible credit earning. They accept NA credit in transfer and yield a RA degree. Sweet! I believe APUS is one of only 2 regionally accredited colleges that allow you to enroll with an NA degree and graduate with an RA degree. American Public University System - Official Site

On the other hand, I looked high and low how to use my NA tech degree, and at the end of the day, it was faster for me to start from scratch. Since the classes are NA, you can technically test out of all of them without duplication of credit. Should be a piece of cake. You'd have to cost compare 60 test credits against 15 residency credits at APUS.

APUS- $3750 residency tuition plus 60 credits of testing/classes + $2000 = $5700 *your ITT degree accepted, you finish your last 2 years with them
TESC- $2800 enrollment fee plus 120-27 FEMA = 93 credits of testing/classes (31 tets) =$ 3100 =$5900 *and you start over, no ITT degree accepted

For a best guess, consider a 3cr test to cost $100. Also, this is WILDLY generic, in that you can use other cheaper sources of credit, like 27 credits for FREE, but as you can see they really are about the same cost. It comes down to which program has the degree you'd rather have and what kind of ratio between tests/classes you want to have. IMO, TESC is faster but APUS is likely to be more relevant to your field- just a guess. Good luck whichevery you choose!

I just went to the APUS site, and the tuition for a Bachelors of Arts in Management is pretty high

DEGREE AT A GLANCE:

Number of Credits 121
Cost Per Credit $ 250
Total Tuition* $ 30,250

The Big 3 (TESC, Excelsior, Charter Oak) are the most flexible for completing a degree. Any can be completed for $4K-$9K (ballpark) depending on the amount of previous credits and degree goal.

As others have suggested, you should check out Excelsior to see if they accept any of the ITT courses. If so then consider the BS Business MIS concentration School of Business and Technology - excelsior.edu

gmagerr: I thought I'd mention one point about cookderosa's suggestion. The number one purpose of this forum is to help others achieve their degrees faster and more efficiently. Even though the cost of total tuition at APUS is $30,250, you would most likely only be taking 15 credit hours, which is $2,750. They would most likely take your current degree, and you could possibly test out of the rest of the requirements with the exception of the 15 that is required to graduate from there. Also, another piece of information that is unique at APUS, for undergraduates; books are included in the price of tuition. Definitely do not rule out APUS just because the total cost of tuition is so high because you could accomplish your goals in a much more realistic way.

I called APUS and they are going to do an unofficial review of my transcripts from ITT, and give me an idea of how many credits will transfer. TESC has a BS in Organizational Leadership, which I really wanted to take, however since ITT is NA, 0 of my credits transferred. APUS has a BA in Management with a concentration on Leadership, which is appealing. I submitted my transcript to APUS Friday, they say it will take 5 to 10 business days. I'll post back when I get the results.

Good luck! Since Excelsior only takes up to 25% of NA credits, it would be amazing if you could get to use all of them at APUS.

If you TAKE 121 credits with them, we are talking about only taking 15. Smile

Just saw your update, I can't wait to hear back what APUS tells you, be sure to share for the benefit of others. You can also ask the advisor if there is a way to use more of your credit than you're already considering- like in another degree, etc. They may be able to make a suggestion that hasn't been suggested here.

The result of the unofficial review was 48 of the credits would transfer. That's good, but a little less than I was hoping. I really can't afford to put this off much longer as I'm going to be 52 this November, but at the same time, I just don't see how I can afford it right now in this economy. I think the degree would run me about $19k or $20k oh well, sorry about the venting.

Again you can with start with O credits and finish a degree from TESC, Excelsior or Charter Oak for anywhere from 4K-9K. Two things are holding you back. 1) The idea that the ITT credits have to be used in your Bachelors and 2) You aren't concentrating on the most important ? which is which degree will fit my present job circumstance?

Will a BSBS Computer Information Systems or BSBA MIS work for your career? Yes. If you are going to manage an IT department this is the degree for you.

TESC won't take your ITT credits, so you would be starting from scratch, Excelsior might. But either degree can be done for under $8-9K.

As previously suggested, check with Excelsior about the ITT credits. Either way you can develop a plan and begin testing out. Both of those can nearly be tested out of with supplementing self-paced Straighterline and/or Penn Foster courses.
