Considering transferring FROM Liberty to one of B3...thoughts?
#1
Hello...newbie user here, but already this forum has been a wealth of knowledge; I was wondering if I could get some general advice!

I've been studying at Liberty University Online for the past two years...suffice to say it was what was easy and available at the time and I wish I'd done a bit more research beforehand but what's done is done! I'm currently a sophomore studying International Business, and I want to finish my degree very soon. I think I can do that, but the cost is prohibitive. At this point, I think finishing my degree is more important that what school I graduate from, so I'm considering transferring into one of the B3 schools (specifically TESU) so I can finish by the end of this year and at a much cheaper cost. I've already taken one ECE and several courses through StraighterLine and I've been really pleased with that.

My focus is to get something business administration related, and since I've already taken International Business courses I thought I could continue on that path to help finish. But I'm willing to change if there's a degree program that will help me finish faster and cheaper.

Credits I've completed/will complete soon:
ENGL 101 Comp and Rhet (3) ECE
HIST 101 American History MOOC (3) Liberty MOOC
BUSI 303 Princ of Management (3) SL
ENGL 102 Comp and Lit (3) SL
HIUS 221 Survey of American Hist 1 (3) SL
BUSI 301 Business Law (3) SL
ACCT 211 Princ of Accounting 1 (3) Liberty
INFT 101 Instr Tech for Online Learning (3) Liberty
ACCT 212 Princ of Accounting II (3) Liberty
BIOL 101 Princ of Biology (3) Liberty
BUSI 201 Intermed Business Comp Appl (3) Liberty
ECON 203 Princ of Microeconomics (3) Liberty
APOL 104 Contemporary Worldviews (3) Liberty
BUSI 303 International Business (3) Liberty
BUSI 409 Non-Profit Management (3) Liberty
Statisics and Probability (3) SL
TOTAL: 51

Planned before the end of this summer:
Macroecon (3) SL
Organizational Behavior (3) SL
Philosophy (3) SL
Humanities Elective (either SL, Study.com or credit for a Chinese language test I'll take next week; not sure yet)
Principles of Marketing (3) Study.com
HR Management (3) Study.com
Operations Management (3) Study.com
College Algebra OR Calculus (3) SL
TOTAL: 24

Basically if it seems all over the place, it's because I've been planning to transfer all my credits out for about a year now, but I thought I'd be transferring into an international university. Since I think I may hold off on that and wait until my Masters to study internationally, I just want to finish my degree quickly and well.

Any thoughts? If I were transferring in 70-80 credits off the bat, how long do you think it would take me to finish my degree? What kind of cost would I be looking at?

I apologize if this information is available elsewhere; if anyone would like to point me in the right direction I'm happy to do my research! Smile Thank you!

ETA: Would this sample degree plan align well with what I've already studied? http://degreeforum.wikia.com/wiki/Sanant...ly_1,_2015

That will align with the BSBA General Management degree. You can search the forum for dfrecore's spreadsheet and plug in your credits.
Then you'll know where you stand. From the looks of things, after a quick glance, you may have each course go into the program! Wow!

I don't think any or none of those courses would be "wasted" or moved into the FREE electives field. Go grab that spreadsheet and update us!
You can use the spreadsheet for reference and tracking purposes, also use it to keep score on how far you've gone and need to go for degree.

Cool, thanks. I'll get on that!

Also, as a newb to looking into TESU, I understand there is a required capstone course, and that it's changing in June. What's the difference between the two courses (besides cost?). Would it make sense for me to try and register for the current exam NOW just in case, or what? I'm not exactly sure what either course entails so I'm not sure if it really matters to me, lol. Tried to google for information and I couldn't find a lot; the TESU website wasn't super helpful.

TECEP is $117, the course is $1500. TECEP requires a 60% for a pass, the course requires 70% and it's much longer/harder to finish.
I recommend applying and getting the TECEP, you can finish it at the latest stage, at least a week or two before the term ends.

Great; thanks; I will look into that. Do you think it's possible for me to apply and register by the deadline for June?

Also, I noticed that the spreadsheet didn't mention Study.com as a venue for fulfilling credits; is there a list somewhere of what Study.com classes TESU accepts and what the equivalency is?

I emailed TESU a copy of my transcript and asked them if they could tell me what would transfer in and where. We'll see what they say. It's crazy that I'm considering this so quickly but honestly it seems like a no-brainer; finish my degree THIS year instead of waiting two years to graduate internationally or pay big bucks for Liberty. If they'll take all my earned credits, it seems like it's the absolute best option for me.

Your main issue to think about is that you will have a difficult time completing an International Business BSBA at TESU because of the required courses - you don't have any of them except International Business. You would need to take 5 more, and there are only 4 offered through Davar and CSU-Global, leaving 2. If you had taken additional courses at Liberty in the major, it would have been a much easier degree to complete.

That being said, you can definitely get the BSBA in General Management instead. The one course I'm not sure of is the Business Computers course, I can't quite tell if it will come in as a CIS/COS course, and fulfill the Computers course for the core requirement. If not, then it would probably come in as a CAP course, and would be a free elective. The Instructional Tech course also comes in as a free elective, so that might be filled. If so, you need to be sure you plan out your degree so as not to take any more courses that won't work in the Gen Ed's or Core/AOS.

Also, if you do what you've planned, taking HR Management, Ops Management, and Nonprofit Management will get you 3 out of 6 courses you need in the AOS - but they are all considered MAN courses. You need at least 2 more courses in ACC/MAR/FIN.

If you're still interested in the International side of things, take Multinational Business Finance from Davar, and possibly International and Multi-Cultural Marketing and Comparative Economics and Global Business 1800-Present from CSU-Global. Of course, get those pre approved before taking them to make sure they will fit into your degree plan. But those will cover FIN and MAR, and are all UL so you would be done with your AOS and still get the international courses you're interested in.

Good luck!

That's super helpful, thanks! Yeah, I saw that it made more sense to go for General Management instead of International, which is fine...considering that I wasn't planning on doing anything international until about a year ago, it is not a problem for me at all.

The Business Computers course I took was all about computer applications (Microsoft Office) and included several group projects...not about programming at all.

I did see the requirement for the spread of classes, so once I decide to go for this I will adjust my planned list of classes accordingly. Sort of been trying to study in a way that covers all my bases since I had a lot of potential plans for this fall, so that's why it's a bit of a random mix...

ETA: And just to double check...TESU does not place a limit on how much credit-by-examination (ACE credit like SL, Study.com, etc) you can transfer in? So I can theoretically transfer in my credits from Liberty and ACE credits and only have to take capstone and cornerstone with TESU?
