Interesting piece of news I came across regarding Columbia Southern University:
State OKs planned sale of Waldorf College | desmoinesregister.com | The Des Moines Register
Seems they are acquiring Waldorf College, a relatively small, financially struggling, brick 'n mortar institution in Iowa which also happens to be regionally accredited by the North Central Association of Schools and Colleges. I had already pretty much made up my mind to go with CSU regardless of being NA-only under the DETC since I have no intention of pursuing anything past the BS Business Admin/Information Systems undergrad degree I have my sights set on, as well as the quality of the program and the strong reputation they have earned in recent years. As it turns out, the DETC’s accrediting standards are actually more rigorous than most RA organizations. I have also learned that the reason CSU has not been able to gain RA status is that the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools that covers their region refuses to approve online-only institutions (sounds so old-school to me). I've even heard that this is one of the reasons why American Military University actually relocated their headquarters to West Virginia in order to gain their RA status. But I digress, my hunch is that this acquisition will also seal the deal on CSU finally becoming regionally accredited. We shall see; either way, pretty neat stuff, IMHO!
