College not accepting ACE credit?
#1
I called the school I will be transferring into this fall, and asked if they accept ACE credits, in which I was transferred to the academic evaluation coordinator. She advised me that they do not accept ACE credits, and I spoke to the academic advisor as well as the registrars office who told me the same.

They basically told me that regardless if its on my current schools transcript (as an outside credit), they wont accept the ACE transcript. It seems it will only be accepted if it is listed on a transcript as a "institution credit". Has anyone been in this situation before?

Yeah, every school can elect what type and how much credit they can accept from sources.

Have you verified with the College Catalog itself?

From what you said, it sounds like you need an institution that will white-wash or "launder" the credits, sort of like how FCC does with the FEMA credit.
CLEPS Passed: 10 DSST Passed: 11 TECEPS: 1

PrLoko-isms
Don't waste time by trying to save time. The only sure way to complete your degree is to knock out credits quickly and efficiently.

Don't let easiness bite you in the rear. Know your endgame (where you want to be) and plan backward from there. Your education is a means to an end.

Be honest professionally, socially and academically. There are people (especially little ones) who look up to you and they're going by your example.

Be proud. Whether you're an Engineer or Fast Food worker, there is honor and dignity in hard work.

Picking on people weaker than you only proves that you are a weak person.

Thanks for the response. I did check the schools catalog, and it listed very vaguely that the circumstances for ACE credits usually on apply to those in the military. I also checked the schools policies, and as well as the academic affairs and provost website.

Is there still any schools that will list aleks math credits as institutional credit instead of an outside credit?

ACE is just an agency that provides credit recommendations to educational institutions, so the ACE transcript itself should not be considered credit.

You won't find a school that will list Aleks credits as institutional credit. Depending on what level of math you are trying to accomplish, your Aleks work may have been enough preparation to take the College Algebra CLEP if your school accepts CLEP.

Very common for a school to restrict ACE to military or deny it altogether. The option is any of the big 3, and perhaps WGU or AMU/APU.....Though in not certain of either.
MBA, Western Governors University February 2014
BS Charter Oak State College November 2011
AS in EMS August 2010

I'm always happy to complete the free application waiver for those applying to WGU (I get a free gift from WGU for this).  Just PM me your first/last name and a valid email so I can complete their form.

ACE is the least accepted out of all the categories of credit, though ACE claims their credits are accepted at over 2000 schools, don't believe it. There are generally SPECIFIC credits accepted in SPECIFIC programs. For instance military credits may be accepted, a specific licence or workplace credit might count in a specific degree (real estate licence counting toward a real estate degree) but once you start talking mainstream college, you're going to find few schools that actually accept ACE in the way we talk about it around here. Example, every community college in the state of North Carolina "Accepts ACE" ...but... that's not the whole story, What they accept is 1 carpentry credential that counts in their AAS carpentry program- and it's only worth like 6 credits.
I'm sorry you're finding out this way, but for full utility of ACE credit, a good list to start is the partner schools on the Straighterline website, they'll me most likely to award credit for you.

EDIT: I'm adding the link to the ACE frequently asked questions. You can look up schools that way.

This is actually great advice. I know Empire State College (NY) and Granite State College (NH), both considered to be TESC and COSC's East Coast "relatives", will accept ACE and pretty much everything else. Both also offer classroom courses all over their states, which may be of interest to you.

I recall one college I looked at (I think it was NAU or ASU) only accepted credits through ACE for military students. At least that's what I was told. It's possible that is the only time they ever countered such credits.

In any case, colleges don't have to accept ACE's recommendation for credit, nor do they have to accept even a regionally accredited college's credits unless there is some sort of articulation agreement in place.
