Clep/dantes Exam Equivalents...help!!!
#1
Hello everyone. I need some General Education Requirement help. I plan on going to Thomas Edison State College (TESC) and getting my B.S. in Business Administration. Just for some background information. I don't have any credits at the moment, but I am currently taken FEMA courses online. So far I have 13 done and plan on doing another 15 for a total of 28. I heard these courses will meet if not all, at least the vast majority of my electives.

First...in the General Education Requirement category, I only need 6 credits in the Natural Sciences/Mathematics section. Will the College Mathematics CLEP for 6 credits be sufficient or should I take College Algebra for 3 credits and maybe Pre-Calculus for 3 credits giving me a total of 6? It seems as though precalculus is a must for getting a Bachelors degree in Business Administration. I plan on being an Accountant one day.

Second...In the Management Core Requirement category...they have listed on TESC's catalog a class called "Legal Environment for Business." What Clep or Dantes exam is the equivalent for this? My guess was Introductory Business Law CLEP but I want to hear from you guys to be sure.

Third...For the Core requirement category again...I only need 3 credits for the Financial Accounting category to get an Associates Degree. Should I take the Financial Accounting exam with CLEP for 6 credits, or just take the Principles of Financial Accounting with DANTES for 3 credits.

They also said that I need 6 credits for Business Electives, 6 credits for the Free Electives category, and 3 credits for the General Education Electives. What exams are the equivalent of these as well.

I'm just trying to get a roadmap set of all the CLEP/DANTES exams I will have to take to get my degree. Just wanted to put them all in order so I can see the path I have before me. I made a goal on getting my B.S degree by September 2008. Based on listening to you guys on this forum, it seems like a task that CAN be accomplished. Any help I can get on this matter will be greatly appreciated...You Guys Are Great! Thanks in advance and good luck to everyone in the Pursuit of Happiness! At the bottom I have included a list that I've gathered so far of all the exams I need to take to at least get my associates degree.

From A Loyal Degree Seeker,

Marshall

1)English Composition CLEP with essay - 6 credits
2)Humanities CLEP (general) - 6 credits
3)Macroeconomics/Microeconomics CLEP - 3 credits (haven't decided which one yet)
4)Social Sciences & History CLEP (general) - 6 credits
5)Principles of Management CLEP - 3 credits
6)Principles of Marketing CLEP - 3 credits
7)Information Systems & Computer Applications - 3 credits

**Have not listed the Natural Sciences/Math, General Electives, Business Electives, or Free Electives until I hear you guys advice from above.
***I need 60 credits to earn my associates degree.

THANKS AGAIN EVERYONE

Hi Marshall,

Just to be clear, the CLEP Financial Accounting exam is a 3-credit exam. There used to be a 6-credit CLEP Principles of Accounting exam which covered both Financial and Managerial Accounting. But that exam has been withdrawn.

So you can choose to take either the DSST Financial Accounting exam or the CLEP Financial Accounting exam to fulfill the Financial Accounting core requirement. Neither exam will fulfill the Managerial Accounting requirement which is part of the ASBA core at TESC.

Also, precalculus or above is REQUIRED even for the ASBA. CLEP College Math will not fulfill this requirement.

I'm sure somebody more familiar with TESC requirements than I will help answer your other questions.

Hope that helps,

Just to let you know, TESC will only allow 25 FEMA credits to be translated RAW. Most of their degree programs allow for 27 elective credits.

Also, you need to check with TESC to see if the BS Business can be fully completed through Credit By Examination.

AFAIK only the Liberal Studies and Nursing programs through TESC can be completed full through Credit By Examination.

Also, your age and work experience can factor in as well. You must be a minimum of 21 years old to be admitted, and you can check out PLA for work/life experience.
