I'm going to take the online writing assessment in a few days as part of Charter Oak's admissions process. It appears to be the same assessment offered as part of ENG 099 - Criterion Writing Assessment. Has anyone had any experience taking this test? What should I expect and what should I do to prepare for it?

Hi Greg,
The Criterion test is a timed assessment of your writing abilities. Your essay will be instantly graded by the computer and depending on your score you will be placed in either the cornerstone class or a remedial writing course. Definitely brush up on the 5 paragraph paper and any else that will refresh your skills if you have been away from academic writing. A generic internet search should be enough to get you the information you need to pass. Good luck, it is not as bad as it sounds!

I completed the course during the summer, like tampamom suggests look into the 5 paragraph paper. When I first took the test I didn't write it like that. I scored a 2 out of 6. I think you needed a 4 to pass the course. Since I already passed ENG100 and ENG101, COSC let me continue on with the class. I only wrote two paragraphs thinking that tI was just checking for spelling, sentence structure, etc. I did not know it was more concerned about having a introduction, topic sentences, and conclusion.
