Careers after TESU Degree

Hi All!

US NJ resident who is looking to take advantage of my company's full tuition reimbursement program at TESU.  With that said, curious what careers/jobs people were able to obtain with what degrees from TESU? I'm looking for a career change but want to be realistic as to what degrees/programs from TESU actually lead to jobs/careers.

This is kind of like asking "which trees grow in the forest?" There are a lot of factors at play here, including things like location, previous career experience, degrees, personal interests, etc.

What are YOU most interested in? It's no use telling you about success with business degrees if you're more interested in psychology or vice versa.

What area of work are you interested in? What was your previous industry experience? This depends on so many factors as Rachel said.

It really depends on the student, their passion for subject interests and trades or another vocation... I currently work in NJ state government, having worked a variety of administrative roles over the past few years.  Have a prior BA from Rutgers in a Social Sciences. 

Would like to move to Technical role - either Cybersecurity or Computer Science to futureproof myself but open to any degree/field, to see what others have been able to accomplish with a degree from TESU.

@aussiegbrl, then you've solved it! You can go for one or the other, if you're feeling extra studios, do both as you just need to take enough credit for residency, you can transfer in the rest using alternative credits and take the courses that can't transfer. Maybe look into their Bachelors to Masters option to max out the tuition assistance/reimbursement!

To clarify: Cybersecurity is ONLY an affordable degree at TESU if one has full-tuition reimbursement. Because of how many classes must be taken directly from TESU, it is not going to be a fast degree in the same way that Computer Science would be. Almost none of the AOS can come from SDC or Sophia. The only one I see for sure is Statistics. I'm not even sure if ITS-1500 Computer Programming I or ITS-2310 Database Programming can be substituted with any programming language or Database Management courses from Sophia/Study.com. Coursera does have some certificates that should work for a couple of classes: https://degreeforum.miraheze.org/wiki/Coursera

thank you for advice.  I am long time lurker and appreciate you and other posters who active in guiding the community. 

Do you know of any prior users who have had success landing jobs w/ TESU degrees in Computer Science/Cybersecurity fields?

Thankfully, the generous reimbursement my employer provides means that time is not an issue for me so I do not mind the longer time to complete the degree.  My primary concern is which degree graduates have had the most success receiving jobs with.

Unfortunately, the answer to "most success" on this forum is going to be based almost entirely on the two degrees that students are able to get cheaply/easily/quickly: Computer Science and BSBA Computer Information Systems. The Cybersecurity, Information Technology, and Cloud Computing degrees get almost no interest on these forums because of how expensive and time-consuming they are for students who don't have full tuition reimbursement. At $545 per credit for out-of-state students, the Cybersecurity degree is pushing $30k in tuition for most visitors to this forum to take just the AOS courses. Ouch!

This doesn't mean that the Cybersecurity degree is bad, by any means, it just means that we don't hear about it.

For those who graduate from TESU with the BACS or BSBA CIS, most don't return to the forum. They come here for one thing (help with their degree) and then leave. It happens. Of those who return, I don't think anyone has ever said that their degree hasn't helped them in some way. They might have gotten a promotion, gotten into their dream grad school, or changed careers. But getting a TESU degree has generally been a net positive for everyone who leverages it correctly.

And that's the key: leveraging it. You need to be able to network and write a good resume that showcases your experience. Along those lines, I would strongly urge you to consider by starting with a Coursera certificate or two, as linked above. The IBM Cybersecurity Analyst Professional, for instance, is free through The American Dream Academy. It doesn't provide that many useful TESU credits, but it'd be a low-risk way to confirm if Cybersecurity interests you or if you'd rather go off in a different direction. If you do decide that you want Cybersecurity, you can also use the certificate on your future resume.

you make some great points! You are right, I should start with a certificate or intro course to see even if I am compatible with what I plan on studying. Any advice for any free Computer Science certificates or intro courses to see if it interests me?
