Capella University's request to offer the Bachelor of Science in Computer Science through its FlexPath competency-based education program was
recently approved by Capella's regional accreditor, the Higher Learning Commission.
This will be a new program; Capella doesn't currently offer any degree titled in Computer Science. As of this writing the program isn't mentioned in Capella's
catalog or on its
FlexPath landing page.

Capella has had some issues in the past with its FlexPath program. One student on DF tried to get in and was denied, telling that student that they needed to take regular expensive classes first before being "let" into FlexPath. Also I hear it's tough to accelerate in FlexPath.
Understand that they have up to 48 business hours to grade each assessment, and it is up to the instructor if they allow you to submit all at once. So just be aware that a 3-assessment class could take a week even if YOU are fast due to the grading allowances.
Degrees: BA Computer Science, BS Business Administration with a concentration in CIS, AS Natural Science & Math, TESU. 4.0 GPA 2022.
Course Experience: CLEP, Instantcert, Sophia.org, Study.com, Straighterline.com, Onlinedegree.org, Saylor.org, Csmlearn.com, and TEL Learning.
Certifications: W3Schools PHP, Google IT Support, Google Digital Marketing, Google Project Management

So that’s where the “for-profit” part comes in

Seems like an alright program, but also at the same time, seems there isn't an accelerate or compact option to finish cheaper, easier, faster... I wonder where the ROI/Value is with this over the other options that are already available. I'd recommend sticking to the known options from SNHU, TESU, WGU, etc for now until we get more info on possible benefits...

I think the value for Capella is mostly for those whose employers participate in some sort of free/cheap tuition program. For example, I am eligible for a program where annual tuition for Capella and Strayer is capped at $5250 a year no matter how many courses I take. In addition to that, I get reimbursed for $1500 a year.

Update: Capella has introduced the BS in Computer Science in both FlexPath CBE (largely self-paced, subscription-based pay-per-term pricing) and GuidedPath (more traditionally semester-scheduled, pay-per-credit pricing) modalities. "This program is currently not approved for federal financial aid by the U.S. Department of Education," the landing page currently states.

Most CBE programs have the same issue when it comes to time for grading. UMPI is 72 hours and I think WGU was also 72 hours. CBE doesn't submit all assignments at once.
