Can you help me plan my degree path?

High_Order1 Wrote:I'm not either. I'd like for it to be a Bachelor's level. Currently, I am knocking out general / core courses. Then I will start actively pinging the Big 3 to see what kind of degree I can get with the electives I have. I really don't want a criminal justice degree, but maybe a police management one with a few certificates, based on what little I've been able to learn about degrees.

I did pass the requirements testing for proctor U, and I found a technical writing book online, so I am going to line that one up and try to knock it down.

This week, I finished the LRC100 portfolio course, which was interesting, and about half a dozen work related homeland security courses. I wish I could get into more of the threat and vulnerability assessment and modeling stuff, but haven't found any distance learning stuff on it.

I also need to dialog more with clackamas county about their program. I don't desire an AS, but if I can get one as low cost as it appears, and using things I've already done, I may pursue that as a parallel track.

You will take a giant step towards your degree (Bachelors) when you give yourself over to meeting their requirements instead of trying to shoehorn what you have into something.

Figure out the path of least resistance given to you in my previous posts to complete the gen eds...once those are done and you apply all that elective credit you have, the cornerstone will be all that stands between you and an AS at COSC.

You will then be roughly 9 course (UL) away from a general studies Bachelors (maybe a handful of other courses, but that's it essentially). Something similar is possible at TESU as well.

I think you are working to hard at not working. Smile

BTW, Technical Writing is available as a DSST. I passed it with an "A" (at the time they had letter grades)after reviewing a few terms here Technical Writing DSST Study Guide - Free-Clep-Prep.com

It will also count as English Comp 2 at COSC. https://www.charteroak.edu/exams/exams-master-list.pdf

Don't forget the Buy 2 get 1 offer through DSST: http://getcollegecredit.com/assets/pdf/Buy2Get1Free.pdf

Difference is, I have to go somewhere a city over for DSST, I could do the PU (lol) here in town. I got denied by the Institute - said I did not take the course at the required location. (shrugs)
I hit edit and resubmitted, we'll see what happens next.

Ok.

Here is where I am at now (see pdf).

I need to fill in the red lines, and invite suggestions as how to use some of the unallocated credit in the lower list up in the matrix.

Currently I am aiming for the COSC BA in Public Safety Administration ( https://www.charteroak.edu/publicsafety/psadegree.cfm )

I read on one page you can only transfer in 90 credits.
Then, I read that in addition to 90 credits from accredited schools, you can also transfer in DANTES/CLEP etc.
Then, on this: Public Safety Administration | Charter Oak State College page, you can only transfer 9 credits.

I'm tired.

Does that mean I can transfer 90 college + xDANTES +9 upper level credits??

banghead

I've heard it several times, but again, (sorry), how many classes will I have to do at charter oak?
Does either of the remaining Big Three have a comparable degree that is easier and faster?

Thanks again! :willynilly:

You can only transfer in 90 credits from a single source. ACE transcripts often consolidate several different sources which would not count as a single source.

You can usually transfer everything in to COSC except for the Cornerstone and Capstone. You're right though, it does say you can only transfer in 9 credits to the Public Safety Admin concentration.

After looking at your courses, it seems that TESU or even Excelsior would be a better use of your credits. Would you be willing to consider one of them? If not, perhaps cobble together an Individualized Studies plan that incorporates the public service professions?

Also, COSC will accept Beginning and Intermediate Algebra for elective credit, but not to fulfill the quantitative requirement.

This is NOT the experience I'm dealing with right now. I have 60-something CR on my ACE transcript right now but they've applied the 45cr limit (for AS/AA's) to the entire ACE transcript, not to the individual sources within that transcript which is what I expected before starting. My last academic eval indicated that a bunch of courses are being ignored due to that. I'm not over the limit on any actual source, but they're only accepting 45cr in total from my ACE transcript.

If anyone else has acquired their AS/AA with > 45cr on an ACE transcript, or their BA/BS with more than 90cr on their ACE transcript, I'd love to hear about it -- ammunition for my own appeal.

I think you're having an issue with TESC, and the original question was about COSC. But I could be wrong.

If I were you, I would escalate at TESU for this. Also, I think you can take anything that is not ACE ONLY (meaning CLEP, DSST, SL) and take it off of your ACE transcript and get those sent through separately first, then add them back to ACE? Because SL can go straight to TESU, they are a partner college and will accept from SL directly. That would remove 42cr from your ACE transcript.

Simarly, most Saylor credit courses are approved by both ACE and NCCRS. I see you took a couple saylor courses, hopefully they were NCCRS approved and you can transfer them that way instead of ACE.

Hopefully none of this will be necessary after an appeal, though. It doesn't make sense to count ACE as one source.

Sorry about not noticing this was regarding COSC, my mistake. Regarding my situation, I agree, it makes no sense. I'm going to pursue it once I'm done with my PF project.
