I'm guessing I'm just not conveying my feelings well.
The law I get. Good there.
The fact that ethics is a wide field, with competing views, I've been blessed to be apparently blind to. For instance, I know a *ton* of words. Deontology* - first I heard of it was yesterday.
* case in point. The spell checker didn't know that word...

There are many issues with laws. For example, why is it a good idea to throw an 18 year old man in prison for having sex with his 16 year old girlfriend and have him register as a sex offender for the rest of his life? Why did a teenage boy get a long prison sentence for punching someone who fell and it his head on the ground causing death while another teenage boy who stole beer, drove drunk, killed four people, and seriously injured 2 people only get probation?

Well...
there's a thesis if ever I saw one... We are a nation of law, should we be a nation of ethics?

There are different schools of thought on law. Some have a better explanation of the law-making process than others. Laws should reflect a society's values, but because of the politics involved, they don't always do.

Okso,
I've been taking about a course a night after work. Just finished Kaplan's PLA course- very informative, but there is an error in one of the questions, they don't tell you how many slides are left in the module, and the dang thing will wrap around until you realize they are repeating themselves! I also can't find where my 'dashboard' is to see like courses completed. I'll wait for an email or something, I suppose, before applying for ACE credit.
I did the Institutes' ethics course, which I liked, made more sense to me than TEEX's computer ethics course (I completed the internet for everyone track).
I had already done the NFA Community Safety Educator, but added the Fire Service Supervision (which was more about deconfliction and dynamics than it was about nuts and bolts leadership).
Sew..
In the time I've been here, I've amassed about 9 undergrad credits, actually did learn some stuff, and hasn't cost me anything but some megabytes and sleep.
Thank you all for your generous assistance and patience, and thank you InstantCert for hosting such a valuable resource!
I was thinking of tackling Saylors' BUS208: Principles of Management, but just noticed it requires a proctorU test. Dunno about that.

You're not going to get through this without taking some proctored exams. Saylor is certainly the cheapest and i think the easiest way to get your feet wet with the process.

My problem is that I don't have high speed internet at home, and I don't relish the thought of doing a test at McDonald's... I could do it at work after work, but that opens up another set of issues. And, I don't know my current computer will run their system.
Far as someone watching me test.... (shrugs). I worked in a position once that required a witnessed void random drug test. If you can do that, I'm betting proctorU isn't much worse.

I think a library might be the place to take your tests. They often have study rooms where you could have the required privacy. The computer requirements for ProctorU are not stringent. Unless your computer is truly ancient you shouldn't have a problem.

+1 on this, as Saylor and Straighterline will require proctoring by ProctorU. I am not sure which degree you ultimately are going for, but if you intend on getting a TESU degree and will take TECEPS, those tests are also proctored by ProctorU.

I'm not either. I'd like for it to be a Bachelor's level. Currently, I am knocking out general / core courses. Then I will start actively pinging the Big 3 to see what kind of degree I can get with the electives I have. I really don't want a criminal justice degree, but maybe a police management one with a few certificates, based on what little I've been able to learn about degrees.
I did pass the requirements testing for proctor U, and I found a technical writing book online, so I am going to line that one up and try to knock it down.
This week, I finished the LRC100 portfolio course, which was interesting, and about half a dozen work related homeland security courses. I wish I could get into more of the threat and vulnerability assessment and modeling stuff, but haven't found any distance learning stuff on it.
I also need to dialog more with clackamas county about their program. I don't desire an AS, but if I can get one as low cost as it appears, and using things I've already done, I may pursue that as a parallel track.
