Can anyone tell me the disadvantages of Distance learning?

PonyGirl93 Wrote:Well, as a "youngster" of DL ( Big Grin ), the only drawback serious enough to have been a potential dealbreaker for me was the lack of interaction with your professors. Sitting in a lecture for a few hours (as long as it was on a topic that interested me), didn't really sound that bad to me. If I could have taken 60 credit hrs of CLEPs and then transferred to a B&M school, I would have done it in a heartbeat. But since that wasn't an option, I opted for missing out on lecture time on stuff that did interest me in exchange for escaping from the lectures that didn't!!! I get to spend one of my post-CLEP years at a community college, though, so I will get some classroom experience Big Grin

But yeah, that was just me. Most people are super excited to skip all the lectures entirely.

Besides, if you really want to watch lectures, you could always use YouTube or ItunesU to get ahold of the video. For me, it was a nice change to stream a few lectures to my TV on subjects I wanted to get a little more depth in.
Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Wile E. Coyote, genius. I am not selling anything nor am I working my way through college, so let's get down to basics: you are a rabbit and I am going to eat you for supper. Now don't try to get away, I am more muscular, more cunning, faster and larger than you are, and I am a genius, while you could hardly pass the entrance examinations to kindergarten, so I'll give you the customary two minutes to say your prayers.

Bachelor of Science in PsychoRabbitology degree
Master of Education with a specialty in Rabbit-specific destructive munitions (or eLearning & Technology, I forget which)
Doctor of Philosophy in Wile E. Leadership with an area of specialty in Acme Mind Expansion - 2017 Hopefully

Psssh. Watching lectures?? I'm not that hard-core nerd :p . The only attraction for me was being in the lecture & being able to ask questions, argue, etc Wink Now, I do listen to lectures all the time, since I can do something else while I'm at it [:

Why were keg-stand parties lumped in with getting up early and boring lectures :-P?

I attended Art Institute for about two year so I have a good grasp for the pros/cons of distance education. I agree with what most of members here have stated already but I personally think one of the biggest con of online classes is the fact that there are no cute girls to keep me motivated Big Grin

1. You will have too much free time on your hands that a B&M class would normally fill for you.

2. You will miss out of the flattery of the creepy student becoming obsessed with you and following you home every day.

3. Your car will be disappointed at how much you are neglecting its use.

4. You will actually be awake at the same time the rest of your family is... *shudders*

5. The money you save will take a very, very long time to count and it may even make carrying your wallet around a whole lot more difficult. Don't even bother checking your bank statements. You never learned how to count that high.
