I think my course mentor was kidnapped!
#1
Or something of equal severity and importance that might explain why he's been MIA for weeks, and has not yet graded midterms when the final project is due next week.

This has never happened before, so I'm not quite sure what to do. Maybe I've been lucky with other courses, but other mentors have always been reasonable with grading speed and responsiveness. The last time this mentor posted or did anything was August 30th, and though the midterm was taken during the week of August 15th and I confirmed with OTA that they forwarded the midterm to him on the 22nd, there is still no grade. Also, I emailed a question two weeks ago about the final project and have not yet received a response.

I'll do my best on the final project without the response, but is there a certain amount of time he has to post grades by? Should I call someone? If so, what office handles this sort of thing?

You need to contact the program head or Dean. Most schools require instructors to be present in the class at least once every day or at least a few times a week. The new DOE guidelines for DL and our State Dept of Education are requiring us to login at least once a day to our online courses. An instructor and school are required to follow the course syllabus as far as turn-around time for grading and responses. I wouldn't wait and I certainly wouldn't submit a final project without getting your questions or concerns answered about the project. Rattle some cages and make some noise. Schools are required to notify students and/or make substitute arrangement is a teacher is out. This is unacceptable!

I would put in a help ticket to one of these and explain the situation. Someone should be able to get an answer for you.

Enrolled students may send questions via:
 • myEdison - Submit a Helpdesk ticket to the Office of Academic Advisement.
 • Enrolled@tesc.edu - To ensure proper routing, include your degree program in the subject line. Example: AA, BA, BSBA etc.

If TESC call the registrar's office and they will direct you to another office for mentor-student relations. The woman I spoke with was Anne. I just dealt with her because my mentor wasn't grading or responding to my e-mails. She (and that office) can contact the mentor on your behalf, which may carry more weight.

My problem was simple. It turned out I had never used Blackboard and didn't "fully" submit my assignments so she didn't see them. Rolleyes

But Anne researched the problem and called me back in less than 1 hour with the answer, this only two weeks into the term. I think you have a much more serious problem they should address.

Thank you for the quick responses. I am hesitant to rock the boat; he's still got my midterm and will have my final project once I send, which total 50% of my final grade. Irritating him right now does not seem ideal. At the current rate they're not going to be, though, and I've worked hard on all my courses this term, and will be seriously upset if this ruins the effort.

It is TESC. I'll contact Registrar and possibly Advising to see what can be done. Thank you!
