I utilized the posted guide when I took this clep. It was useful. I also utilized the biology cliffnotes from the library and the IC flashcards. I read over the posted guide twice a day for a week before the test. It is good because it pounds very specific information into your memory with a sledgehammer (if you use it like I did). It is very short, just 3 pages, not at all enough for a pass. If you try to use the posted study guide exclusively you will fail miserably. Best is to use cliffnotes and supplement with it. The IC flashcards were ok, but the cliffnotes covers the entire exam and in better detail.
I have 18 traditional credits and 51 exam credits. I've passed Introductory Sociology 76, Introductory Psychology 68, A&I Literature 66, Principles of Marketing 76, Introductory Business Law 71, Social Sciences & History 67, DSST Drug & Alcohol Abuse 450, Biology 69, Principles of Management 70, Natural Sciences 64, Intro to Business DSST 70, Principles of Macroeconomics 67, Principles of Microeconomics 58.

My study routine for all test I have done so far including biology.

1) Take the IC flashcards and every one I do not already know or get correct on the first time I write on a flash card.

2) Supplemental reading, depending on subject I may use dummes (or similar), cliff notes / spark notes, textbook. In the case of Biology I used a cliff notes

3) I usualy find a book on tape of the subject and put on my mp3 player. I listen to it on my 30minute commute to work. But not on the way home. Lex and Terry have now taken over 4 of my favorite radio stations I listened to in the AM. AHHHH. Bit torrent and TTC audio is usualy helpful. That or Open Corseware. In the case of bio I used TTC. It did help some.

4) I used the posted study guide. I read through it every day for about 5 or 6 days. It does not go into a lot of detail however drills in key points you need to know.

5) The Exam Specific Feedback section and look for keypoints on there and wikipedia them. This last step I did not do for this specific exam.
