Bridge TEFL - International Diploma in English Language Teaching TESOL ($1,000)
#1
More info from Link: https://bridge.edu/Bridge-News/bridge-of...vel-sector

Eligibility for the free version of these courses is limited to teachers employed or temporarily furloughed by English language schools in the language-travel sector. Enrollments can be made on behalf of teachers by school administrators, who can apply by visiting  https://teachersempowered.bridge.edu/.

However, this is not just a post about their FREEBIE for language teachers.  They have more offerings, especially for those looking at alternatives to VESI, they offer 9 graduate credits for their IDELT Online program (International Diploma English Language Teaching), I think the price is $999 USD/$1362 CDN for 9 graduate credits that transfer to partner universities listed on their page (and possibly more like to Amberton, etc).

This international diploma is available for $1k. It will give you 9 graduate level ACE credits too!
I think this type of credential can be helpful if you want to travel abroad and work there.

The program is 100% online!

And most of those TEFL groupons aren't worth the paper that they're (not) printed on. I'd rather have a TEFL certificate from a legit university, if possible.

And for a lot of schools and programmes, this is (unfortunately) sufficient. If you're only going to teach for a year or two, you won't have time to develop any real teaching skills anyway, so there's perhaps not much point in forking out 1000+ for a certificate or diploma course.

I still recommend the CELTA as the gold standard for teaching English if you value pedagogy and teaching as a profession, but outside of Europe and Australia, its not quite as well appreciated as it perhaps should be.
If you've not the time or inclination for the CELTA, this might be a decent alternative. Being able to use this towards a Master of TESOL later on so is a major plus.

What's with the fascination people have on here for Groupon? I ask because in the US, they are not highly thought of at all. So many scams come out of them.

Bridge TEFL is giving you a Diploma! not a certificate or just a course!
Diploma is a legit qualification.

Certificate < Diploma < Associate's Degree < Bachelor's Degree

You'll be getting some extra learning content and ACE credit recommendations from BridgeTEFL, and it might be a good choice for people who are already working in the field. For people who only want to stand out a bit in entry-level teach-abroad job applications, it's correct that even the Groupon certificates are sufficient (at least in East Asia). I'm just speaking from prior experience of picking up a Groupon cert in my downtime years ago that provided like a 1400% return in a raise when I was teaching culture/ecology at a UNESCO-affiliated school in South Korea. I was also interviewing new foreign teaching staff, and even these certificates showed more initiative than most of our applicants. A CELTA/DELTA would be more of a gold standard for in-class instruction that could be had for the same price in certain locations, with a BA/MA in TESOL for lifers.

For a cheap but good TEFL, I would recommend instead going to Coursera and doing ASU's TEFL certificate. ASU is a legitimate university. These Groupon TEFLs need people to stop giving them legitimacy.
In progress:
TESU - BA Computer Science; BSBA CIS; ASNSM Math & CS; ASBA

Completed:
Pierpont - AAS BOG
Sophia (so many), The Institutes (old), Study.com (5 courses)

I wouldn't even mind the prices of the certs or the fact that they are on Groupon it weren't for the fact that the content within those cheapo certs is trash that won't at all prepare a person to teach. The ASU one absolutely will prepare a person, the material is very deep and the exercises are real world simulations of lesson planning and classroom communication taught by experts in the field.
