Help with an evaluation
#1
OK,
I'm at a point where I think I'm going to have to make a decision regarding TESC or Excelsior for either a business degree or if possible any other degree (liberal studies).

Here is what I have:

Already taken at community college - All are 3 semester units accept 5 units for spanish. And the pre-calc will be 4 units if I take it in 3 weeks.

ENG-1A English Composition
MAT-36 Trigonometry
ACC-1A Principles of Accounting I
BUS-18A Business Law I
CIS-1A Intro to Comp Info Sys
MAT-12 Statistics
ACC-1B Principles of Accounting II
CIS-5 Fndmtl/Program/Logic C++
ECO-7 Macroeconomics
SPA-1 Spanish 1
ENG-90B The Research Paper Process ( 1.00)
MAG-44 Principles of Management
MKT-20 Princ of Marketing
HUM-10 World Religions
SOC-1 Intro to Sociology
BUS-22 Mgmt Communications
CIS-2 Fndmntls System Analysis
HIS-7 Pol Soc History of US
MUS-26 Film Music Appreciation
SPE-1 Public Speaking

Taken at CSU - Pueblo
Mgnt - 311 Bus. Policy

Total 63.00 semester units

FEMA
33 Units

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In Process

Enrolled At Community College

ECO-8 Microeconomics
MAG-47 Applied Bus, Mgmt Ethics
MAT-10 Precalculus

At CSU- Pueblo

Mgmt - 485 operations management

At UIDAHO

Astronomy
Ethics
Philosophy

ALEKS
Algebra without Trig.

But I have some questions.

Does my Trig. course help my math requirement anywhere? Is it considered college algebra or higher?

I know my 311 and 485 course will work at Excelsior, will they work for TESC?
I read that even though the 311 and 485 courses are upper level, they will be counted as LL at Excelsior because they fulfill the business core. Is this correct?

Will my CIS-5 course (C++) count towards my math, gen ed., or free electives at TESC or Excelsior?

Will my CIS-2 (fund. systems analysis) count as gen ed., or free electives at TESC or Excelsior?

Will my BUS-22 (Mgmt. Communications) count towards humanities, business requirements, or free electives at TESC or Excelsior?

Will my MAG-47 (Bus.Mgmt. Ethics) count towards humanities, Business requirements or free electives at TESC or Excelsior?

Based on what I have would it be any benefit to look towards liberal studies degree or BA, or just keep plugging away at a business degree. I would prefer to heads towards an operations management degree. But I will take what ever I can to finish a degree ASAP.

I'm also thinking of taking the Eng. comp. With Essay, for another 3 units at TESC, And the AI Lit for some easy hum. units.

Any help or comments would be appreciated in comparing this info. As you can see my college doesn't number the classes by 100 or 200, so I don't know if TESC will give them 100 or 200 level credit. I just assume all CC courses will be lower level at Excelsior.

I have a community college Algebra course TESC gave me 3 credits for MAT-121 in my natural sciences requirement. I also have a cc Trigonometry I got 3 credits for MAT-129 and that went inder my mathmatics requirement. The only problem I might see for you is they might consider Trig and precalc as too similar, but what I have seen from TESc they probably will not. Good Luck

I'm considering pursuing a BS in Business Administration at TESC or a degree at Excelsior as well. The only ones who can really tell you what courses will apply to what degree are the college advisers at TESC and Excelsior. I haven't enrolled at either college. This is my opinion based on what I've read from the two colleges. Take it with a grain of salt.

The Trig course won't satisfy a math requirement in a business degree at either TESC or Excelsior. Both colleges should allow the course as a free elective. The Precalculus and Statistics courses should satisfy the math requirement at both schools.

311 is the Operations Management course at CSU-Pueblo. 485 is the Capstone Business Policy course. The 485 course should be accepted at TESC to fulfill their capstone requirement. The 311 course doesn't fit into the business core at TESC, but should be accepted as a business elective.

Excelsior requires 12 hours of upper level credit for a undergraduate business degree in addition to the core requirements. The 311 and 485 courses will still count as upper level courses, but they will not count towards the 12 hour requirement.

If you are considering a Management Information Systems (MIS) concentration at Excelsior or a Computer Information Systems (CIS) area of study at TESC, the CIS-5 course should apply to the programming language requirements for those degrees. The CIS-2 course should partially complete the Systems Analysis and Design requirement in both degree tracks as well. You may need to take a Systems Design course separately to complete that requirement. Otherwise, I suspect those courses would just apply as free electives.

The BUS-22 course should apply either as a humanities requirement or free elective at Excelsior. It should apply as a business requirement at TESC.

The MAG-47 course should fulfill the Ethics business requirement at Excelsior. While not required, an Ethics course is strongly recommended when pursuing a Business degree at TESC. It should apply as either a humanities requirement or free elective.

I would definitely stick with the business degree track at this point. You've gotten enough core credits in that realm that it makes sense to keep plugging away. While you would be further along in a MIS/CIS track due to the programming and systems analysis courses, I think any area of study would still make sense. If you plan on going down the Operations Management or CIS track at TESC, I would definitely take the DSST Management Information Systems exam. It counts as an area of study elective for either degree. It wouldn't hurt at Excelsior either, since it is considered an upper level exam.

Good luck.
