Bachelor in Psychology (having a Bachelor, MBA, PhD)
#1
Hi All,

I have a Bachelor in Computer Science, an MBA as well as a PhD in Business Administration, yet I want to keep learning and want to get a Bachelor in Psychology. After reading hours across this forum and the wiki, I think I got the "general understanding" how the concept works. But before I get started and enroll (likely with TESU), I would like to get the advice of the experts.

Your Location: Germany
Your Age: 41
What kind of degree do you want?: Bachelor in Psychology (BA or BS, doesn't matter)
Current Regional Accredited Credits:
None, or rather, I'm not sure. I have ECTS Credits from my degrees in Europe / Germany. But I assume that Computer Science (Bachelor) and Business Administration (MBA and PHD) wouldn't allow me to transfer anything towards Psychology.
Current ACE, CLEP, or NCCRS Credits: none, see above.
Any certifications or military experience?: none
Budget: I really want to this to be as "cheap" as possible, ideally around 3k USD.
Commitments: I work full time and have a family.
Dedicated time to study: around 2 hours per day
Timeline: open ended - no problem if it takes more than a year or two or even three...
Tuition assistance/reimbursement: none

Thank you all for any advice and creative ideas.

Andre

For your budget, UMPI would be a better choice:

You would need any foreign degree evaluated - ACEI or any NACES evaluator works. Your general education would be waived based on having a bachelors already.

Welcome to the board, with just two hours a day, it's going to be hard to complete a competency based degree quickly. If time is not of the essence, cost would be... You're going to be on equal footing for both, I would guess my answer would be the same as this one here: I suggest keeping your options open for both TESU/UMPI as both will only require the major to be done...

Thanks Both of you to take the effort to reply and give your recommendations. I have two follow up questions:
- I understand that UMPI would be more beneficial due to cost. Do you have a rough estimate what the difference to TESU would be approximately?
- what do you mean with keep both options open? I would have assumed I need to have my existing degree evaluated by UMPI/ TESU to ensure I get the general education part waived and once confirmed I sign up?
Thanks

Hey, since you're in Germany, why not Fernuni Hagen? https://www.fernuni-hagen.de/studium/stu...ogie.shtml

Thanks arad,

The issue with Fernuni Hagen is Flexibility. You need to do the tests / exams physically onsite or in some partner locations. I need to be able to do the exams at my own time and online.

The problem with TESU is that on anabin https://anabin.kmk.org/no_cache/filter/i...ionen.html it appears as H +/- . For the rest is a flexible option. So you will need an evaluation if you want the degree for anything official. Most subjects will be done outside of the university and then transferring them in (since it is the cheapest option). Credits are expensive at TESU.
UMPI is fully accredited in Germany since appears as H+ and will give you less problems. if you can make the degree in one or two terms and will be cheaper since you play a flat semester fee. Also all the subjects will be done at the university which make it logistically easier, but adds more stress together with time constraint.
For the moment I do not know how is the acceptance of a TESU degree to Germany. I expect a positive result always that you do not use experience in form of PLA as credit, but who knows. Maybe somebody else can give you more info about Germany in concrete.

as per cost estimate:
UMPI 1600 x number of semester + any degree fee or other fee
TESU option 1: $ of the credits you want to transfer + full time fee ($4,428) requires that you pass 16 credits at once + application $50 + graduation $298
Tesu option 2: $ of the credits you want to transfer + application $50 + graduation $298 + 6 credits *$556 (can be half if you have a 2nd bachelor? since you avoid cornerstone you should check) + waiver (for not making 16 credits with them) $3,354

Sure I forget a lot. So take this with extreme care.

In respect of transfer credits, if you make an accreditation of your degrees from Germany you will win a lot. My guess is that at least all general education will be waived. Maybe more... It is worth trying. WES is widely accepted and if your degrees are from German unis you should have no problem. Use the ICAB option because they keep everything in storage for the future, you also get a Credly badge (which maybe can be useful or not).

Just a quick note on UMPI - it's $1700 per 8-week term now.
