BSBA Operations Management: 100% testable
#11
dfrecore Wrote:I don't know what the Study.com course comes in as, so I put the "?" at the end of it. But please update us when TESU replies.

It does not come in as MAN-435. They did not give me a course code it would come in as.

And since I need MAN-435 for the BSAST I'm going to have to stick with Sophia.

I think that although they list MAN-435, they actually just mean Project Management. So any PM course you took would fit the bill. Most other degrees do not include course numbers, just course names, on the list of courses on the website. It's like someone created the BSAST list and did not look at the other degrees to conform to their style.

Obviously, you should get the course pre-approved before taking it.

TESU Wrote:Good afternoon and thank you for contacting Thomas Edison State University's Office of Academic Advising. In regard to your inquiry, Project Management (SDCM0073) through Study.com does not transfer in as Project Management (MAN-435) and therefore cannot be used to satisfy technical core requirements. The American Council on Education (ACE) recommends this course as a "lower-division baccalaureate/associate degree category, 3 semester hours in business and management" course (it cannot be applied to an upper-level requirement).

Thank you for that. That is a really strange response. I can't imagine that if you took PM at a CC, that they wouldn't count it as meeting the PM requirement. I don't think I've ever heard that a COURSE has an UL requirement. Really doesn't make sense at all.

I would also like to know what it comes in as.

And BTW - ACE's description of CLEP's Principles of Management is "In the lower-division baccalaureate/associate degree category, 3 semester hours in management." and yet they count it as UL MAN-301. DSST's Management Info Systems is "In the lower-division baccalaureate/associate degree category, 3 semester hours in information technology or computer information systems." yet they count it as CIS-301.

I hate when they are so inconsistent over there. They make no sense on a regular basis.

I'm not going to be following up. I'll just take the Sophia course and be done with it. At least we now know that the Study.com course can't be used for the BSAST. My only thought is that they require both "technical core" courses to be UL, but I don't know for sure.

Any other options for getting quality assurance?
#17
I did a bit of research when I was planning this AOS.

Corporate College Services does offer it (NCCRS approved), but I did not include this as an option because they do not contract with individual students, only employers.

If you can find an ACE-approved Six Sigma course that you can take, a lot of them are approved for quality, or you should have an easy time getting TESU to take them as such. However, as above, a lot of these programs are employer-sponsored or a lot more expensive than the CSU-Global CBE. These are usually Green Belt or Black Belt courses. A "white belt" will not do it.

It's possible that Penn Foster's "Quality Control Systems" course would work, but it is not ACE-approved so you'd need special dispensation.

Of course, you could take a course directly through TESU, OPM-411. You can also ask if APS-402 would work, but if you're taking a course you might as well take the "correct" one.

I'm wide open to other options I haven't considered. Smile

TESU does not give special dispensation for non-ACE-approved courses from PF, because they aren't RA (they are NA). Plus at $299, they're more expensive, so there's no point in going through the hassle when you have a cheaper option available (CSU-Global is $250). TESU's course is $1500.

I haven't heard of an ACE-approved Six Sigma course that's inexpensive here, and there are a few people going the Six Sigma route, so they would have piped in with that info if they had it, I'm sure.

With Study.com's new transfer guide published, I asked again about Project Management.

TESU Wrote:As per a recent revision, Project Management (SDCM0073) through Study.com will transfer in as Project Management (MAN-435).

This AOS just got much cheaper, especially if you take another business core at the same time.
