BA in CS vs. BALS w/ CS Concentration

@sanatone while I agree with you on the psychology, part the OP's job isn't designing UIs or UXs (which along with HCI a degree is not necessary AT ALL), I had such a role already, its all about knowing your way around the CMS and giving instructions and a lot of listening (and patience!) She'll be communicating with customers so comm isnt bad at all.

Also TESU dosent have a degree in HCI or UI or UX design. Based on the choices she has Comm isn't too bad. But psychology will be a better fit.

We agree that the job doesn't need a degree at all, so any degree would be overkill. Communications is fine for checking the box, but it's not really relevant to the job (I've had several call center jobs). Communications degrees are intended to train professional communicators such as public relations specialists and technical writers rather than people working in a call or chat center. The knowledge you may need may differ between each call center job. For example, you don't need any particular degree to work as a claims adjuster, but having a degree with a concentration in insurance and risk management could be helpful. People who take abuse reports over the phone are desired to have behavioral science degrees because they're dealing with people who have disabilities and those who are traumatized. If you're working an abuse hotline, you'll want to study psychology. If I were doing tech support, I would want to know what I'm talking about.

Exactly right that one doesn’t need a communication degree to know how to communicate well, no arguments there! Lol! I was just coming up empty otherwise.

Given my goals of keeping things stressfree, flexible and remote, I am voluntarily taking a hit on my career aspirations to prioritize being a mom first, then once my son goes to school full time and is more independent, I can take on a heavier role. I was hoping to obtain my degree before that happens to mark that one done in the proverbial bucket list! It’s basically now or never that I do it, so that’s why I am so focused on getting a degree before the end of 2020.

 Interesting view on the Psychology degree instead of Communications. I have considered it in the past but will take another look. I would enjoy it, definitely. 

And, I don’t work in a call center, though, I can understand why that would be the perceived message. Sorry for the confusion!

Question: If I did a BA in Psych along with the ASNSM in CS, could the Statistics needed for the BA be used for the extra mathematics needed for the ASNSM, knocking both out at the same time?

Ha! For what it's worth, I'm doing a Psych major (among other things....) and nobody seems to think this. But then, I am also much more interested in and focused on experimental psychology, psychology of memory, etc. than on anything clinical or psychoanalytical.

Yes, that absolutely works! I'm planning on doing both of those degrees as well (not 100% certain I will do the ASNSM-CS, as I'm already doing a double-major on my BA and an ASNSM-Math)

I wanted to add that I'm seeing more and more advice to steer away from BALS then in the years past. I'm thankful for the break that I took when the BALS was cheaper so that I can avoid that temptation and go for something else. One silver lining to the changes in TESU's catalogs since 2017, IMHO.
