BA Computer Science TESC Course Sequence
#1
Hello all, just want to say thank you for the information. I've employed all my google-fu for this site but have some questions about setting up a course sequence for a BA in Computer Science at Tesc.

Sem1)
College Geometry
Management Information Systems
C Programming

Sem2)
Data Structures
Computer Architecture
Databse Management

Sem3)
Assembly Language
Software Engineering
Systems Analysis and Design
Discrete Mathematics

Sem4)
Operating Systems
Artificial Intelligence
Linear Algebra

Sem5)
Capstone

Everything else will be satisfied by CLEP/DSST or SL.

You can test out of Management Information Systems if you want. It's an easy DSST. There is also a TECEP for Network Technology.

Like sanantone said, MIS is a pretty easy DSST. I took less than a day to study for and pass it.

My only suggestion would be flipping Assembly Language and Computer Architecture. They will both touch on "some" similar material from what I have been told, and based off of the syllabuses of the two courses Assembly Language looks less rigorous.

Here's my course sequence I plan to start in March in case it helps:

1st Semester
Data Structures
Discrete Math
C++ Programming

2nd semester
Compiler Construction
Computer Architecture
Systems analysis and design

3rd Semester
Switching Theory and Automata
Programming Languages
Artificial Intelligence

This is based off of difficulty, prerequisite courses, and the fact that I talked this over with 3 full time programmers and my boss, who went through each course description with me to help make sure I was getting the best possible education I could get from TESC. (I am currently a programmer intern). I'm pretty lucky to have had these guys to help decide which classes to take and the order.

Anyway, I hope this helped!

Also, I was looking over the Computer Architecture course and it says "Advisory: It is advisable to have completed two computer science courses before taking this course. Also, it would be helpful (but it is not required) for students to take a course in discrete mathematics as co-requisite. However, it is expected that all students who are taking this course have the mathematical maturity gained in a year of college-level mathematics (such as calculus or discrete mathematics)."

So you may want to restructure where you are putting discrete mathematics and computer architecture. Your call though.
