Attaining Masters Degree after Bachelors from TESC

Yes, I didn't think about that.

City_Being Wrote:Hello Everyone,

Besides attaining my Masters from TESC, I wanted to know other school options out there. ~

I cant comment on TESC specifically as I got by BS from Excelsior. I can tell you that the excelsior degree, along with very good GRE scores got me into a very competitive MS program at a very well regarded school. I've since finished that program and gotten accepted into a second MS (which I declined) and an MBA program. The MBA is at a tier 2 school(by choice), but the MS was at a top 25 engineering school.

All of that was to say, a degree obtained mostly by exam will not preclude you from getting into a quality graduate school.

Thank you all for your input and suggestions. I am so happy to know that there will still be options for me if I take the exam route with TESC. I work in the HR field and have 11 years of HR management experience. I recently moved to the West Coast and I am having a hard time finding work due to the fact that I don't have an Bachelors in HR or Business even though I have experience and I am certified. So as I stated, I want to nip this education issue as soon as possible and at the lowest cost. That is why I am leaning towards TESC. But I don't want to stop there so I am looking ahead towards a Master Degree. I recently was introduced to this forum and have been researching my questions prior to posting. I could not find anything related to my question, so I took a chance a post. I am so happy to have found this board and such helpful individuals. Perhaps this post can assist others who are looking beyond a Bachelors Degree.

Yanji Wrote:If you want to apply for a competitive program, I would recommend taking at least 30 (preferably senior) credits with letter grades, or to build an alternate transcript after graduation. Some programs might also have prerequisites which cannot be satisfied by CLEP/DSST, in which case you'll have to take the course. Otherwise, it doesn't matter too much where/how you got your degree.

Thank you Yanji. I don't think I would be able to afford the 30 credit route, hence why I am trying to test out as much credits as possible. Or am I missing your point?

Saharapost Wrote:I took the ppc route and completed my TESC BSBA General management degree without any GPA. I applied to ENMU and got admitted. Though I'll have to provide a final transcript that States I have been conferred a degree, but the GPA was not an issue as my gp was calculated from my Penn foster, StraighterLine, and foreign university transcripts.

That's pretty good. Their acceptance rate is about 60% so they are somewhat selective according to the Princeton review. That is good info!
Don't miss out on something great just because it might also be difficult.

cookderosa Wrote:Make a small list of 10 schools you'd consider. Within that list, look for requirements and prerequisites. For example, if 8 of the 10 require a GPA, then you can either exclude those 8 or build earning a GPA into your TESC degree. I opted to take classes at TESC for several reasons- I wanted to develop the writing skills I'd need in grad school, I wanted to take classes online (was getting burnt out on just testing), I wanted to use my Pell Grant, I wanted a GPA, I wanted to get a feel for how I'd manage school+family in my life. I finished 120 credits in 1 1/2 years, 6 months of testing and 1 year of taking classes. In the real world, that's lightning fast.

Great advice. I received my AA first and I did keep in mind what undergraduate colleges would accept all of my CLEP credit (before I knew about COSC) so I took CLEP tests based upon schools that I knew would accept those tests for transfer credit (if they were out of state). All the in state schools had a matriculation agreement with the CC. Largely by coincidence (or perhaps by God's grace), I met the requirements for most Graduate schools I looked into attending with the exception of taking a statistics course which I scheduled for July 31. What you are proposing is a great idea because if OP has heart set on any particular colleges, it's better to go ahead and figure out what their requirements are now so you can strive for that (OR find another college to set your heart on whose requirements are a bit more flexible.)
