Ashford University
#1
Hey everyone, was hoping to pick folks' brains a little bit. After hearing your inspiring stories and gaining so much knowledge through reading your questions, answers, advice, and stories, I finally signed up!

My plan is/was to acquire as many credits as I can through CLEP, independent study, FEMA, and Straighterline and then transfer to one of the Big3. However, one of the programs at Ashford University has recently caught my eye. So now I'm considering Ashford as well. I have a few questions for those of you have attended Ashford. I have already heard from so many who attended the big 3 and I feel confident that either of those would work for me. However, I don't want to rule out Ashford either.
  • Is the coursework mostly a whole bunch of writing and initiating/responding to discussions with classmates?
  • Are you allowed to take courses out of sequence or is there a pre-determined sequence that you have to follow once enrolled?
  • Have you or do you know of a forum member who has successfully transferred in credits earned after you're already enrolled? If so, was it difficult to do?

I already know a little about Ashford, their resolved accreditation issues, cost, reputation, etc. plus I did chat with an advisor and they give lots of information that's already on the website but aren't really good about giving the inside scoop. So I decided to stop lurking and come to you guys for help.

Thank you!!!!

A coworker/friend of mine recently graduated from Ashford. He really enjoyed it. As far as I know, most of their courses are Blackboard based, so lots of discussions and written assignments. I believe the courses were not sequential.

They have had some accreditation issues (as you've noted) but he was military, and Ashford gave him a CRAZY discount.
