Just curious...
How is this chosen?
I noticed I'm a recipient of it.
I've seen others on this forum receive it as well.
Are their any specific requirements necessary to be granted this award upon a completion of a bachelors degree from TESU?

Yes, if you're under the older 2015/2016 or older calendar years, it's easier to obtain than this year...
Those who have obtained it actually just required to have 90+ credits transferred into the degree.
The major requirement is those have to be "alternative" credits, earned by testing or non-conventional classes.
So for example, ACE, CLEP, DSST, etc courses will count towards this requirement.

I just counted my credits -- looks like I only have 52 credits which are ungraded/alternative credit. Guess I won't be getting the AFA.
Just curious, why is it harder to get 90 alternative credits now than in past years?

Would non-traditional courses which aren't applied towards the degree, but are in the "Other courses:" section count towards the Arnold Fletcher Award?

Because now it has these requirements:
Quote:51% of the credits earned at Thomas Edison State University toward the degree must be earned through Thomas Edison State University's online courses with a minimum of 10 courses necessary to be considered for the award.
Students must have earned an overall GPA of 3.5 or higher

Wow, if they want a student to take 10 courses -- and will not count TECEPs -- there probably won't be as many DF members receiving the AFA anymore.

They completely changed the requirements this year, now it is not based on non-traditional learning. Now you just need a 3.5 GPA and to have taken a ton of TESU courses, which means (likely) non of us are eligible anymore, nor would we want to spend the money necessary to get it.

Edit: I guess I should have kept reading before replying. This was already covered. Oops.

That thread falls under the old requirements, so unfortunately will probably be confusing.

Awards and Honor Societies
Arnold Fletcher Award
Dr. Arnold Fletcher was the University's first vice president and played an instrumental role developing and leading the institution's academic enterprise. Under his leadership, Thomas Edison developed its first degree programs, appointed its first Academic Council, created its first exam programs and courses and became a pioneer in prior learning assessment. The Arnold Fletcher Award recognizes Thomas Edison State University bachelorâs degree graduates for exceptional achievement in online learning. Award recipients are selected from each graduating class. The following criteria must be met to earn the award:
51% of the credits earned at Thomas Edison State University toward the degree must be earned through Thomas Edison State University's online courses with a minimum of 10 courses necessary to be considered for the award.
Students must have earned an overall GPA of 3.5 or higher

The bold emphasis above is mine. The award has changed. The award previously acknowledged something different. "The Arnold Fletcher Award recognizes Thomas Edison State College bachelorâs degree graduates for
exceptional achievement in nontraditional learning."
