Love those kinds of classes, I'm going to add it to my post-it
I took a FANTASTIC class through Harvard Extension several years back called Newsworthy Topics in the Life Sciences (BIO grad credit) totally sparked a deep interest in global health and disease. I looked and it's still offered (same professor) I highly recommend it, but it has a heavy price tag.

This course, designed for non-scientists, provides the scientific background to appreciate these reports more fully.
